Edit: After a lot of thinking and testing, I would like to report that I worked it around by using a SNEEK NAND build by ModMii.

I’m facing this odd problem were some games are freezing on exiting.

Detailed description: the console simply freezes (black screen, no sound, power led is still green) when I try exiting some games, the console also freezes if I try to turn the system off while the same games are running.

Games with the problem:
Pacman party
Mario kart Wii
Rhythm Heaven Fever

Games working normally:
Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros
Pokémon Battle Revolution
Rayman Origins

Tests I’ve conducted so far (without success):
Loading Mario Kart Wii for another HDD
Loading Rhythm Heaven Fever from a SD card
Loading a distinct Mario Kart Wii image from USB
Using USB Loader GX instead of Configurable USB Loader
Starting the USB loaders through the HBC
Loading Mario Kart Wii using distinct CIOS (250 and 222)

All games are NTSC-U.

Oddly, if I load an original Mario Kart Wii Disc the game works (an exists) normally, also I've tested the HDD on another Wii I have at my disposal e and the games work fine.

After all these tests I’ve reinstalled a patched IOS236 and the IOS above, but the problem remains.

v10-beta52 is only really useful if you have a Wii U. beta53 is not useful at all. Unless your HDD doesn't work with v8 stick with it.

Did you check the SHA1 hashes for the games that are not working with Wii Backup Manager?

There's nothing wrong with d2x-v8 final. Many would not consider them out of date and continue recommending them above v10.

I have been using v8 in other Wiis and never had a similar problem.

Checked all of them, got a second MKWii image, and tested the same HDD on other Wii so I could be sure the images or the HDD weren't the source of the problem.

Now I'm considering formatting the console, but I'm sure if it's safe, I'm afraid I may brick the console.

Formatting doesn't fix anything. It only erases shop data and clears the tickets out of the NAND.

It could be the drive going to sleep while the game is running possibly. What are your games stored on?

I'm using a 160gb FAT32 HDD formatted using GUIFormat.

I've also tested the console with another HDD (FAT32 HDD formatted) and a tried loading Rhythm heaven fever using a SD card with no sucess.

Anyway here is the list of games on the HDD:

What loader are you using? It could be the "Return To" feature isn't working due to a missing forwarder. WiiFlow requires both a forwarder and another hidden channel to work properly.

Loaded the games using UBS Loader GX 3.0 Rev 1268 and Configurable USB Loader v71 beta 51t3 on both I had exactly the same results.

I also tried loading the games using a Configurable USB Loader located on the HDD instead of the SD card but got the same games crashing on exit once again.

And would like to add that even if I try to reset the game (or shutdown the console) just after loading it, I still get the console frozen.

After a lot of thinking and testing, I would like to report that I worked it around by using a SNEEK NAND build by ModMii.

Now I can load and exit the games from an UBS drive without any problems, I just have to do it on the SNEEK NAND instead of the real one.

Hi folks,

I'm having a somewhat similar problem to this. I have looked extensively on multiple forums and can't find anyone who is having the exact same problem.

In short: my softmodded Wii freezes when I exit a Gamecube game launched through USB Loader GX.

It doesn't freeze when I exit from Gamecube games that I launched straight from Nintendont. And it doesn't freeze when I exit from Wii games.

It isn't a black screen - it simply freezes the picture immediately. The green power LED remains on, and the remote will no longer connect. I have to do a hard reset every time.

I have heard some other people having this problem when they select to enable "native controller", but I have that option turned off.

I've included a Syscheck and my USB Loader GX + Nintendont settings here:

I'm afraid the problems don't have the same source.

As far as know, Wii games are loaded using cios, while gamecube titles are loaded using nintendont.

However, if you find no better solution, you could try same workaround I've used: load the games through an emulated NAND.

I think I see the connection - what shutting down Nintendont technically does, which is telling the loader to go to a channel. That can be a full channel or a forwarder channel. I don't know exactly what I have installed, but I do know that my forwarder channel for USBloader doesn't work. It tells me that my HDD has no games on it, though when I go through Homebrew it works perfectly, aside from this Gamecube freeze. So definitely worth looking into reinstalling the forwarder channel. Thanks @alexander1970

The only things that still make me doubt are 1) that I today changed the "Return To" setting to all possibilities and I get the same result, and 2) the fact that it works fine through Nintendont itself. That's what I don't get. If it works fine through Nintendont, it suggests something's up with the USBloader. But if the loader works fine with Wii games...

I only recently heard mention of an eumulated NAND, @6PoolRush ; my first impression was that it seemed like it was a hassle, but I didn't read so much about it. I'd prefer to find the fix for my current setup, but if I don't find a better solution, is it effective? Thanks for the advice.

I'll be damned! It worked! Uninstalled the full channel and installed the forwarder like in the tutorial you suggested @alexander1970 - worked like a charm. And now I don't have to go through Homebrew every time.

Beautiful! Thank you : )
