you can do it with a auto boot modchip. then you can burn a disc that boots a .dol or hbc

Only Wiis the first two or three shipments can read DVD recordable discs. If it's a later one it doesn't matter if you have a mod chip installed or not. They won't be able to read a burned disc. The console also can't boot any discs whether original or not if it doesn't make it far enough into the hardware initialization to access the optical drive.
