Newbie question: About half of the games I try to transfer from .rar to my NTFS drive don't work, and the log shows "Not enough space available to extract archive." I've got 671 GB left on the hard drive. Any idea why?

you must extract the rar to iso then transfer to hdd. also you need a folder called WBFS on your ntfs drive where the games can be stored, although wii backup manager will create that for you.

Yeah, I tried converting them to ISO and got the same message. The other games transferred right from rar format. I've already got the WBFS folder.

Badly coded programs often store data somewhere on C:\ (temp dir) and only then copy it to the target location.
Besides taking twice as long they fail if C:\ is to full.
Maybe this is such a case.

Temp files in other location are also seen: current dir, src dir(!?), program dir, the root of D:\(this one is apparently MS' favourite

This is probably it, my C drive is getting pretty full. I'll try this tonight, thanks for the tip!

Is there a way to include the Filename in an exported game list? I checked the available export templates, but couldn't find a %Filename% example. I tried using %Filename% and %FileName%, but those don't seem to be valid variable names.

After stating that I really enjoy WBM and am very thankful for it, I have 3 suggestions/wishes for WBM more or less related to my question.
- an option to rename files, based on WiiTDB data, without transfering the files
- an option to perform the renaming in a flexible way, using header names (like the variable names in the template files)
- include the "languages" value as available in wiitdb.xml

Once your drive is loaded just go to

Tools > Titles > Rename All

No need to transfer them or anything it will update all titles according to the titles used by wiitdb

Also in the titles tab in the settings you can select

Use Wiitdb titles for file and folder names and it will rename all your folder or files as well.

I have my backup's as ciso's on my NAS. I already have the "Use Wiitdb titles for file and folder names" option enabled, but that doesn't seem to make WBM rename the files on the NAS when I add them under the "Files" tab.

Thanks,
Ed

Did you select

Tools > Titles > Rename All ?

Just because you have that option set doesn't mean it automatically updates the names for you.You need to do the

Tools > Titles > Rename All

Also the option to rename the titles is not available for files loaded under the files tab.

You need to load everything in the drive tab and then do Tools > Titles > Rename All

I didn't realize there was a "custom folder" loading option, under the "Drive" tabs. Worked fine... thanks !

I really think it should prompt if you really want to exit or not, when you try exiting the program.

When I first used this a year ago, I accidentally closed it during transfers, thinking it'd ask me if I really wanted to exit, but it didn't and I had to do weird stuff to get meh files to show up again >w

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to make a couple of requests for the app and see what everyone thinks. The first request would be to implement a trim function when creating iso's like WiiScrubber does. It should be located under the Misc section of the General tab in settings. The app already allows removal of the update partition so why not allow trimming the iso as well. The would eliminate having to compress the iso's with WinRar for storage and also decrease the iso size for those running iso's on NTFS. The second request would be to use iso on FAT32. The FAT32/NTFS tab under settings already allows this for NTFS drives. If the trim function is implemented then most games will be smaller than the FAT32 file limit of 4GB. So why not allow this. Anyone care to comment on this?

Just a quick question, would it be at all possible to use this to convert a multi-part wbfs file into an ISO? I can't seem to get it to work. PErhaps there is a way to merge the WBFS files so I could then convert them?

You should be able to with Wii Backup Manager. Check mark it and click Transfer, ISO.

My apologies for asking in two places. I also should have made myself more clear, I already tried using WBM to convert the split files into an ISO but it seemed to fail every time. The converted ISO never appeared in the location that I picked.

Sorry again for the double question, I just figured it seemed best to ask in both places.

Hi Wiimm,

Thanks for your reply and links. However I think you misunderstand what I am looking for...

A scrubbed iso stored as WDF or WBFS or CISO has almost the same size as a rar compressed image. The only adavantage of RAR compressed images are time consumption (ironic).

It is true that WDF, WBFS, or CISO are almost the same size as an rar compressed image. The whole point of my suggestion is to retain the iso format and save disc space. If you remove all partitions except the data partition, and trim the iso, then you are left with the smallest iso possible that is playable by most if not all loaders. So your archive of games on your computer do not have to be compressed and the iso's are ready to play. Not only that but they are the smaller that WDF, WBFS, or CISO. WiiScribber currently does this with the Trim function. It would be nice if WBM could do this to.

It's okay, just don't do it again since it adds unnecessary posts to the forum.

Converting split files work for me. What kind of file system are you saving it to? It won't work if you are using FAT/FAT32, since the maximum file size is 4GB, but it shouldn't be a problem with NTFS. That's the whole reason they are split. If you don't know what file system you have, go to Computer (or My Computer on older versions of Windows), right click on the drive you are saving it to, and choose Properties. The file system should be listed in the General tab. I haven't used a Mac or Linux computer in a long time, so you will have to figure it out for yourself if that's what you have.

@MrGreg
If you scrub an ISO and store it as WBFS, it is small like a trimmed ISO and playable by the most USB loaders. Trimming has one disadvantage: Fake signing is necessary because data within the data partition is moved.

Examples for scrubbed WBFS:
* Animal Crossing: 360 710 144
* Mario Kart Wii: 2 778 726 400
Compare these values with trimmed images.
