Yeah if you do what I said it will fix the system menu and also update you to 4.2, which is what you want. Follow the guide to the letter, apart from skipping the second step about 'Installing the HBC and bootmii' as you already have access to HBC, and have no access to the SM to launch bannerbomb anyway.
No need to check what ios you have. It doesn't really matter, plus, since you unplugged while updating, you have no real way of knowing if the existing ios you have are intact or corrupted.
Make sure that you do the optional last step in the guide to install Priiloader. Once it's installed go into System Menu Hacks and enable 'skip disc update check'. You'll never have to worry about your sister or anyone else updating because Priiloader will make your Wii simply skip any disc update checks, no matter what system menu you are on or what system menu update is on the disc.
