I think this is a reply just for the sake of replying, anyone with the ability to test I would really like to know how this turned out.

supposedly the best version of a modern classic on any format, even with a wiimote but can anyone really get excited about playing a two year old game yet again with some refined controls? Would you rather have resident evil 5 instead? Well I can pretend it might happen

Great! I haven't modded my Wii so I'm going to buy the European version (though I already have the Gamecube version, I bought it for my Wii).

Can somebody confirm if the Wii Edition can import Gamecube saves? And does it support playing Gamecube-style with the Gamecube-controller?

Thanks a bunch!

it's unlikely to supprt GC saves on a Wii, not sure how that would work anyway - and the game only supports wiimote and nunchuck as far as I know, also this Jap version is allegedly censored (heads don't come off for example)

Well, you can just put Gamecube controllers en Memory cards in the Wii

So it's very much possible. The question is: do they implement it?

@sekhu need I point towards the "updated" sports titles that are released every year.

Yeah, I don't get excited about those titles either, fresh, original IP is what the Wii needs though rather than another Gamecube port. If it were a case of mentioning the Wii's best titles thus far with this being one of them, then you could say that the Wii's best are simply gamecube ports (including Zelda, which frankly was crap IMHO).

Well, the Wii IS just two Gamecubes duct taped together, so of course it's best games are Gamecube "ports". Cause it IS a Gamecube!

Right... So how do you use a Wiimote on the Gamecube again? And where do these updated graphics and internet services come from?

I may be the only one, but I'm getting sick of people who don't call the Wii a nextgen console. (well it actually isn't, as it is currentgen now
tongue.gif
). What would you say if I would claim that the Xbox 360 isn't nextgen because it has the same controller? It's just bullcrap! The currentgen consoles atm are Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. Don't forget handhelds though: DS and PSP (and some more... I'm sorry GP2X-fans, I forgot for a second
tongue.gif
).

I understand if you call GBA and PS2 previousgen, but the Wii isn't!!!

I agree with you sekhu some original stuff is desperately called for (yet to play twilight princess though for either console), the first year of any console (or version of directx) is always some of the best of the last version polished up for (or crow barred into) the new hardware with the occasional gem thrown in for as long as I remember though.

I surf a lot on Dutch gaming forums, and in EVERY (yes, really every) thread about the Wiisomeone talks about the Wii being a downgraded PS2...

wii is definately better then ps2 cause its around the xbox benchmark (which is better then ps2), but people have to remember the wii isnt a visual experience... although having said that, for such a high selling console the big N aren't really taking care of business on the gaming side of things... too many ports and tacked on controls, its not cool!

imho, the only games i think are worthwhile so far are the godfather, raving rabbits (its just so damn funny!) and mario football, the rest are pretty average single player. as per all N consoles though, multiplayer in most games is still pretty fun (warioware, red steel etc)

too bad if you dont have friends

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
