I would definitely like to see auto-downloading of 16x9 covers, since I only use my widescreen for my Wii. I really hope that a uniform size can be agreed on, and used consistantly amongst all loaders with 16x9 settings.

Thats what were working on

hey do us a favor and try this on your display using a loader with wide screen http://bluetain.com/dropspace/resize3.php?size=130x225 and measure the box to see if its perfect square.

Also for anyone making backgrounds for widescreen try starting with your image a 790x480 before you resize to 640x480. I know the math isn't right but antiaverage pointed out to me that tv pixels are rectangular and pc are square, and thats the ratio we used to get the box art to show perfect square on the TV

Hmm... why exactly are people saying 120x220? Shouldnt it be 120x225? I dont think the loader stretches vertically, only horizontally, and the original images are 160x225, no?

it is 120x225 BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT after creating my 16x9 theme i have notice that vertically the images get shrinked by 2% (covers and Background)

QUOTE(evvil @ Apr 17 2009, 07:55 AM) ok guys I finally fount the perfect size for widescreen, thanks to antiaverage for all the great ideas, help, insight and info, your awesome bud!

This is 130x225 on a 40" samsung, the dotted square is a perfect square in photoshop!

i ageed with that i have notice too.

Conclusion:

so we need 130(+2%)px x 225(+2%)px covers to show it exectly the same size like 4:3 screen

Thanks I worked for a while to fine best ratio, could you also try making a background starting with 790x480 then resizing to 640x480 and see if that works better. That would be same ratio that fixed box art, thanks.

790x480 +2% or we have to change the covers by 2% (read my post ;-) )

I added a altered 16:9 background.png to the Ultimate thread, I have ONLY altered the cover box and coords to use with 130x225px images, the bg.png dimensions are still based on the 853x480 to 640x480. Looks very nice with 130x225

Why can't we just use 130x225? it looks big enough on my screen. Also if the background and box art are being stretched the same amount wouldn't 790x480 work with 130x225 if neither are (+2%) I guess I don't really follow the +2% thing sorry

Is this a PAL TV issue because i dont notice the shrink?

Thanks I'll check it out

Well guys ,

Thanks to Evvil for pointing it out and antiaverage for doing up a script , there are now widescreen images available on the site as well.

For autodownloaders the address is http://www.theotherzone.com/wii/widescreen.php?type={region}&id={gameid}

for anyone else the link is on the webpage and pops up a new page for widescreen.
Its based on 130x225 as i believe thats the correct size ?

Nice going djtaz

Just a quick note, your icon for the stretched images says 16:10 when it should say 16:9

wide.gif

(if the above image changes to say 16:9, it means he fixed it, heh)

Awesome!! you are the man

thank you very much, and 130x225 works perfect for me (even if it is 2% shrink) the size looks nice just how it is, rounding a 2% add would give a weird number that the wii would not like. It would not display 131x225, 129x225 or any other uneven numbered size (go ahead and test it) so 130x225 is just fine

Once again antiaverage jumped in here and sorted things out for us.

It seems the loaders didnt like getting images from the URL style , so i gave antiaverage access to the files and he re-coded the site for to be able to handle links for the router.

Excellent work antiaverage and thanks for jumping in and sorting this out for the community

The new widescreen images are made on the fly and use what looks to be a normal link :
www.theotherzone.com/wii/widescreen/{region}/{GAMEID}.png

for example
http://www.theotherzone.com/wii/widescreen/ntsc/RJ2E52.png

Thanks agian antiaverage for helping everyone out with this.

This might sound like a stupid Question, is this url supposed to be added to the config.txt?
www.theotherzone.com/wii/widescreen/{region}/{GAMEID}.png.

I think the lads programing the loaders that will auto download the images will hard code that into it to be honest so that when you select widescreen it goes for the widescreen version.
The path is there more for the coders that for individual users - for individual users who want the game ID's they can just go to the site and click on the 16:9 icon (also fixed by antiaverage - thanks again) and it will get you the widescreen image

Allright thanks, i thought so

that sounds really awsome.

Yeah, it will be up to the SD/USB Loader modders to choose what to do with this link, so ideally you should check back with your favorite Loader and see what they're up to. If they're not incorporating widescreen friendly images, make a request and point them to this new link method. It works gauranteed.

Thanks go to djtaz for providing the service, without which we would be stuck manually editing our images from all those other crazy Wii box image collection sites. Also, thanks to him for letting me set up this widescreen option, and evvil for inciting the riot and dealing with late night testing on his 16:9 TV (I need me one o' dem)

Ok for anyone making widescreen backgrounds, I have found the perfect size to start out with, make your bg, then resize to 640x480. I have been trying it out for a few hours, making, resizing measuring boxes on my tv, but I finally found it. The size you want to start with is 800x480 If you want to test this for yourself here is my test pic http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/9862/800k.png turn off covers to measure boxes, they were perfect squares made in photoshop before the resize. The lines and numbers on the edges are showing how many pixels are being cut off (on my tv it cuts 16 from the top and 14 from the bottom) so try to keep important things out of the cut off area.

Again the size you want to start out with is 800x480, then make and complete your background, and then resize it to 640x480. Using these sizes you will get perfect aspect ratios!
