This is why I support open source/community projects. And why I go hard on members who demand things from our community devs. They put the time and love in to they projects to help our community.

When it's a company which in a grey area like EZflash. Which exploits another company to make money. It wouldn't have problems exploiting its customers. EZflash has a bit of a name. It put a fancy looking shell. Somehow people got the idea it had an FPGA which will make your DS in to an analogue pocket.

If tomorrow, A dev made open community DS flashcart. How many poeople will donate $5 to him or her to help or improve the project, let alone $20. i bet some will donate $1 then hound them to ends of the earth for this feature or that feature.

EZflash hasn't had a great track record in recent years, people complain about all their other products too, why wouldn't they complain about this one?

you're right. things that are expectedly bad shouldn't be criticized or disliked

:glare:

People should complain all they like about EZflash.

It's just a very average flashcart, EZflash is capable of so much more, but they knew it only had to be average in order to sell, due to the state of the market nowadays, so they put in the bare minimum amount of effort. And that's a little disappointing.

May I ask who would care about a (supposedly?) new DS flashcart in 2025?

More than you think. The marketing was top class. They got a bunch of YouTubers to make it seem like it was the second coming of the DS. its looks cool with FPGA which will be "unlocked" in the future with an update....

EZflash is capable of so much more

What make you say that? Where's the evidence?

I don't know why I expected better from gbatemp, why does staff make threads just to stir shit lol

edit:

tell you the truth, I'm just trying to lay the foundation for/if an open source DS flashcart is released..... one day.

A few things here: i've seen a rise of people who come into spaces like this and setup products like this by following video tutorials, i'm not gonna explain the problem with that as that'd be beating the ashes of a dead horse but i bring this up not because of videos tutorials being potentially outdated but because the FPGA chip hoax was mainly spread by people who make those videos and have no idea what they're talking about and the audience that watches them, it doesn't take much to follow a written guide, then transform it into a video and throw a few buzz words in that sound smart but makes absolutely no sense overall but people who don't understand and or aren't educated on the matter will take it as face value unfortunately.

regarding the EZ flash team themselves, i've said this in another thread and i will say it again: i don't want to hate them but i can't ignore the fact that this entire thing is scummy on their end and theirs only, i have not seen a single thread where someone had an issue with the EZFP, and they've responded, and if there is it doesn't matter as the cart isn't close to a point in being usable long term, as much as i dislike the EZ flash omega DE randomly freezing occasionally, at least i can get some mileage out of it, the EZFP is so disgustingly bad it's embarrassing, maybe i'm just a nice gal but i still genuinely encourage them to do better.

I think that even a community driven DS flashcart would get disliked in the beginning. The DS flashcart menus developed over many years and it's much work to try to compete with them with something completely new. And even with years of development history, all the other the products currently widely available have known issues (slow menu, Pokemon black 2 is broken etc).

To be fair: if you check the Everdrive forums, people also complain about the ED GBA
What make you say that? Where's the evidence?
The OMEGA DE is (in my opinion) the best GBA card ever released. It still has some issues, but it's better than everything else and it costs less than the ED GBA.

I think that it depends on the case. There are good video tutorials and some people find it far more easy to follow a good video tutorial compared to a written guide. Written guides also have issues that are not corrected for many years. One example beeing lack of the stargate 3ds in the ntrboot 3ds guide. It's still not listed for the cards that can be used. Same as EZ Flash Parallel. Also, the image in that guide is missing some cards from the table of supported cards.
