The one that always confused me was: in the Advanced series, before entering the league, they(ash, may and the other guy) eat chicken noodle soup...surely it'd be like...pidgey noodle soup or something...

Let's not question the logic of Pokemon, it lies beyond our reach...they DID however show grilled magikarps on the episode when they were on the ship before it sank in the first season.
