why i cannot create 9bit variables in c?

you can create 8,16,32,64 bit variables but not 65,7,9,31 bit variables

There are a handful of systems that do signed numbers that way and thus could land in the power of 2 + 1 range through conventional C data types for said same.
Otherwise next stage up and blank out whatever you don't need, or in the case of 31 bits can either play with shifts or do some kind of boolean operation (and with 7FFF say) to blank the upper bit.
