Why exactly is the search bar not seen on the home page?

I know you can search any thread or forum after you open anything (ex: Forum, Downloads, etc) on the site. What bugs me, is I need to open something before I can do any search.

thats weird I never realized that
we should have a little search icon in the navigation bar that opens a popup allowing people to run a search... we'll get on it
