Why are 3/2DS’s so expensive lately? (Spring 2022)

I’ve been looking around for a 2DS lately and everywhere I look they are just so expensive. Finding a brand new in box 2Ds seems impossible. And the ones on FB Market, eBay, OfferUp, and Mercari are easily +$250. Just last year they where around +$99. Insane how something decently new could skyrocket so high in price in such a small matter of time. Pandemic maybe? I know they aren’t being manufactured but I feel like we should be near the bottom of the bathtub curve.

2|3DS are good emulation machines, portable and backwards compatible to the huge DS library. That should be the cause for high prices ↓↓↓↓

If you insist on getting a device that has been out of production for quite some time now in condition "new" it is gonna cost.

With patience and the will to lower the own expectations, a 2|3DS can be obtained for a reasonable price.

Are you talking about the Old 2DS or New 2DS XL? Also the price is steep because you're looking for a brand new and CiB, the price for just the system and charger would be around half of it (depending where you look), i would recommend looking for used systems instead of CiB or new, unless you want one like that then there's nothing to be done about it for the time being.
Also visit any game stores near you, you might get lucky.

Has to do with supply and demand, since they stop production on 3DS. As @KleinesSinchen said if you want a new one, expect to pay more, it is more of a collector item when it is brand new sealed. Doesn't help either with inflation going on nowadays.

Nintendo just announced they were shutting down the eShop next year and they're taking credit card mechanics and eShop card mechanics offline for the eShop on 3DS later this year. I would think that's the Lowest Common Denominator for the logic behind prices on the system rising at the moment, wouldn't anyone else?

It's crazy. I paid my NIB New 2DS XL 50€ few years ago, now for that price I can't even find an old 2DS...

I think people think they have some priceless super collector thing and just inflate the price

Nothing you can do though since they have the item if someone wants it brand new they have to pay for that price, I mean just look at price of N3DS cover plate, they are off the roof even for used one.

I think it's because it's a great handheld system and it plays games from every other great handheld system.

I've been tinkering with mine recently. I've added a 3D movie player, which is awesome, updated the PlayStation emulator, which is awesome, and re-discovered Yoshi's Island DS, which is awesome.

It's just 100% awesome and that's pretty rare.
