I'm the kind of guy who loves average play times etc, and wanted to see how long I'd been playing some games. However when I entered activity log, it gave me the "Error switch off your system blah blah blah". When I tried to switch it on, it stayed on a black screen. Turning it off and on again worked the second time, and everything worked grand, except for one thing; activity log. Activity log just has a spinning waiting thing, and I left it for three hours today on this screen, came back and it was still spinning.

I don't know if it was GW mode which caused this. I was playing Dream Team Bros and this happened. I home, closed then went directly to activity log.

What can I do? I don't want to format my 3DS as I have eShop games on it.

strange, i can enter acrivity log in both normal and gateway mode. i am on formware 4.1

Did you view the Activity Log while playing a game? If so, that is probably the problem. I also love the activity log, and I've never had a problem before, but I also don't think I've ever used it while a game was open before.

The activity log is software installed as an application, thus causing the game to shut down if you decide to open it during a game. Opening it ingame wouldn't be possible.

If he updates he completely loses his ability to use his Gateway.

Also, like I mentioned, updating doesn't format anything. Updating won't remove any garbage data that's causing the program to hang.

Absolute worst case scenario he has to format his system, which would fix the problem and keep him on a Gateway compatible SM version, but he'd lose his eShop games... however, once Gateway FW 2.0 releases, he can create a virtual NAND on the latest update and download all of his eShop games on that, if my understanding of the process is correct.

For now OP I'd listen to Sicklyboy and not the other luigi90210 guys.

If you really need activity log, wait for the Gateway 2.0 update. Then, boot into emuNand (which is basically 6.3 "emulated" on your device" and check if the purchases show in eshop. If so, go ahead and factory reset the 3DS to reset it back to the current firmware, and download your games in emuNand and use Gateway in regular 4.x

Profit.

Or, he could listen to me, who says that the activity log works perfectly fine so long as he doesn't open it while running a game? If he really needs the activity log, all he has to do is open it before or after using Gateway, not during.

Providing false information to intentionally mislead a person into bricking or otherwise making their hardware or software solution to play game backups will not be tolerated. It's trolling, which is already against the rules.

ok im gonna ask this

how do you and everyone else know that updating the 3ds wont fix it?

what if its something deeper than just bad app data(which is a high possibility seeing as the app crashed while in gateway mode and now it wont launch at all)?

ya i was trolling earlier but in all seriousness now, it might be the only real way to fix it if formatting the card doesnt work

you cant dismiss that possibility just because he is on 4.5 and bought a gateway, just sayin...

Or, LIKE I ALREADY SAID, he could wait for Gateway 2.0 to release, make an emuNAND that runs on 6.3+, and with that, continue to use his Gateway AND have the latest updates for the system, access to eShop, and presumably fix the Activity Log if nothing else he does will.

It's less the fact that updating won't fix it and more the fact that in his case, updating will break more things, and he doesn't even need to.

if you set the date o an older date the activity log will automatically delete all activity past the actual 3ds date, you can try that

That's not possible.

That's what I plan on doing.

Not possible. I'm not goiing to listen to you because what you say makes no sense.

Thanks. This is what I expect to do.

Could having records of games from other (normally blocked) regions bug the Activity Log?

I doubt it, but maybe. All my games are EUR though.

I will try this, thank you!

ive had a few of the "built in" apps just hang when trying to run in gateway mode, the camera and activity log but they have worked fine after a reboot. if only gateway had release their nand backup tool i might avoid using any built in apps till after v2 is released just to be safe

That's not the case here. It's permanently not working.

And setting the date back didn't fix it.

What exactly did you do?

Was playing Dream Team Bros, and was going to turn off my 3DS. Before I did I home, closed then went to activity log to check average play time for it.

Stopped working blah blah contact nintendo if it happens again blah blah.

Turned it on, it stayed on a black screen for a minute so I turned it off and on again, in which case it did work. Everything worked except activity log, which sits on a spinning thing on the bottom screen and the walking guy on the top.

BAsically as how I described it in the OP.

I meant, when you set the date back, what did you do?
Did you ensure that the date was early enough to delete the possible wrong data?
Did you actually played something else, checked the activity log while being in a past date? or did you just straight change it back without doing anything else?

Turned it back long enough yes. I played something else in between and tried checking in the past date. Didn't work.
