Hey, I recently got a 50$ gamestop gift card. I'm trying to decide whether to get Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7. Which would you get and why?

if you are looking for a good multiplayer game, get mk7. Super Mario instead is quite easy at the beginning but it becomes quite difficult towards the end and is a good platformer

See, I really hated Galaxy 1, and didnt bother playing 2.

Galaxy 1 and 2 are the greatest platformers ever, but yea, everyone has his own taste..anyway, I have Mario kart and Mario land, i recommend Mario kart because of the replay value and online experience. But as its not possible to compare this both titles, I would say you test both at gamestop or whatever.

Galaxy is the most trippy platformer i've played in a while. But they're too easy.

Get Mario Kart. You can never go wrong with the Mkart games, they last a ridiculous amount of time. But really, both are fun.

Also DarkStriker, this dude is a poor north american bastard like myself who doesn't yet have Tales of the Abyss. We get it in Feb.

They are extrem fun, Im playing patformers since NES Times, but after Mario brothers 3, I never had as much fun with a VG like with Galaxy 2, everything was just right..and well, if you got all green stars with Lugi, youre good, youre really good..I took some time for this :)

It really comes down to your personal preference. I'd get Mario Kart before Mario Land just because I don't like platformers as much as racers. If you have played galaxy and mario kart wii, which did you like better? The same can be said for these two titles: which do I want more, a platformer or racer?

If I had $50, I'd get MK7. It would probably last me longer than SM3DL, only because the game is never really "over" and the race is different every time. SM3DL will always be the same.

Mario Kart 7 - it has more playability.
Super Mario 3D Land is great, don't get me wrong, but it takes less than 10 hours to finish it - unless you are a 100% completer and want every coin etc.

MK 7 is multi-player and you can play against the world, there are normal VS races, coin / balloon battles, time trials (you can even race against other people's ghost times if you're connected to Wifi) you can unlock a series of characters and vehicle customisation, it's hard to get bored of really as there's always competition. You can also join communities in the game which concentrate on different things - battles, normal VS races, Bob-omb battles (it can get quite specific) you can even play against other people on the temp - so it's a good way to socialise :)

Ok everyone is saing mario here mario there ... i for one would recommend Tales of the Abyss ^^
already 23 hours effective playing time on my save and there is hardly a 3ds game that i played that long yet. (i do not have that much time cuz of work and such)

Well i hardly know anyone who liked this game except all the nerds here on GBATemp oO
played barely every mario game there is and galaxy was just so bad ... couldn't stand the stupid runing around small planets idea annoyed me way to much, even with the new Mario 3D Land i think the N64 one was still way better ... would love a Mario 64 Remake with 3D land's grafic ^^

I recommend sonic generations-100 missions for play time
has a story(although it's really short)
online mode

I got SM3DL, and it's a bit underwhelming. I enjoy it a lot, but I know I'll get bored quickly. Luckily, I bought a used copy and I will be returning it and buying MK7. Thanks guys!

Definitely depends on what type of game you are looking for, as they are both awesome games! 9+ Ratings each..

Boombox said it best with..

Personally I played the shit out of Super Mario 3D Land when I first got it which was a few days before I got Mario Kart 7. I worked my name near the end of the second last world in SM3DL before I purchased MK7. Since I've gotten MK I haven't touched SM3DL since. Not that it was a bad game, it's just MK is too damn addicting, especially when you get online. I'm a huge fan of online multiplayer and MK offers phenomenal service when it comes to the VR points and the communities aspect. Not just that but there are plenty of custom parts to unlock and even special star icons for bragging rights to denote how awesome you are to the online community!

Anyways, it all boils down to what kind of gamer you are and tickles your taste buds. I would personally buy both because you will definitely not regret either purchase. But, if I had to choose it would be Mario Kart 7. Hope this helps!
