You guys are completely wrong.

I if was a new player I would definitely start with X and Y or OR/AS

The previous games are kind of dated and aren't really necessary to enjoy the franchise.

Loled. xD I was the one judging YOU. You cannot read it seems. Read my sentence. Repeat x200

I sincerely hope something terrible happens to you for your egoistic attitude. I was like you once, and you know what? When that "something terrible" happened to me, it set me straight. Now it seems to be your turn. Good riddance.

The 3DS games are the absolute worst games to start with imo. But hey, not saying you're wrong. You're just in the minority.

Yeah, I can see why some don't like them, but if you take a look at it they are essentially the same games with newer tech. There is no reason to not start with it.

But well, I could also recommend Black and White or BW2, but anything older than Generation 4 (I wouldn't start at anything below gen 5 because of the TM change however) is not really a good place to start anymore.

Oh, you mean the godlike new tech that doesn't even allow for 3D graphics unless you're in a battle, which then brings the game to a horribly low framerate?

Honestly, since making TM's reusable, they became less valuable. You can use them as many times as you want, taking out the element of planning (like using your zap cannon TM to teach your Rhydon so he doesn't get owned by water-types instead of giving your Pikachu yet another electric type move).

Your argument sounds like someone trying to defend CRT screens over LCD a while ago.

I agree with this, I had stopped playing after Ruby/Sapphire and I came back recently to X/Y. I found the game extremely easy and part of this is because of the reusable TMs, that took away a part of the strategy. This change still doesn´t make much sense to me, but I see some people like it.

You don't even know how much I have judged both the games and the Pokémon designs. One more idiot spotted on this forum. Nice.

I have played every game. I have talked with looooots of Pokémon fans since 2007 on IRC. I haven't made a post "judging" anyone else apart from this guy. My original post in this thread was about the correct way, IMHO, to play the games.
Do you even realize what you sound like?

Well I had a play of Fire Red and quite enjoyed it. I'm not entirely sure I understand the combat system. Am I just supposed to select the type of attack and see what happens?
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_National_Pokédex_number

this can help with types, with Deoxys being the last Pokemon in FireReds Pokedex. for type corrections:
Mawile is steel
Azurill is Normal
Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir are Psychic
Snubbull/Granbull are normal
Marill/Azumarill are water
Togetic is Normal/Flying
Togepi is normal
Igglybuff is normal
Cleffa is Normal
Mr.Mime is Psychic
Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff are Normal
Clefairy/Clefable are Normal

and this will help you optimize what attack to use. bit of a mindful...

Well, if you actually wanna enjoy it (knowing the first steps of this saga), I would start with Pokémon Crystal, in my opinion it was the best one released.

If you want to stay updated (with the new types/moves/pokémon) I would start with Pokémon ORAS.

Pokémon Yellow is also a good game, just if you wanna try the first ones aswell :P

I agree with you, though I suggest actually starting with Gold so that, later on, if you liked Gold, you can play Crystal and it'll be kinda like replaying the game, but there will also be differences that you will notice.
