So here's the deal: My OTHER brother (Not the CounterStrike one. I have 4 brothers >__>;) wants to start paying for WoW on our other computer. Personally, I think he's gonna waste his money on that thing monthly, but whatever, that's not the point of the thread. The thing is, Im not sure how to check, but Im almost sure we have a standard if not below standard graphics card. Also, we have the minimum requirement of RAM, which is 512 if I remember correctly. Now, would he be fine running it like that?

If not, what is more importnat when playing WoW - a better graphics card or more RAM?
How much would those 2 things cost me?
Which one is more worthwhile for the computer overall?
How much money do they usually cost?

Thanks in advance, everyone! :]

A video card is more important. I know this because I made some upgrades a few years back in order to have better performance in WOW and the video card made a huge difference.
well, It all depends on what the video card is. if its anything decent, then the ram would help more. from my experience.

I'm afraid wow will run like a bi**ch on that system
unsure.gif
It may be playable in some parts in the game but once he reaches a major city it will almost be unplayable

I may be wrong but that's how I feel

Tell your bro to download the free trial and test it out first.

Then again, heres another bit of info I just came to find out.

Apparently, he is going to play a private server. Meaning, there wont be 657 billion people on at the same time. In fact, there are less than 1000 on. This could mean a lot less stress on the computer, right?

nope. thats about how many people are on one server at once on normal servers. (that may be more...)

there are a TON of servers splitting up the people.

Sorry, the private server will make a minimal difference in speed.

I see. Thanks for all the help then. I guess he can try out, but he shouldn't be TOO excited, because it'll probably run like crap. :\

Also, coolbho3000, please actually read the post. See the part that says I just came to find out?

Its on the banner at the top of the page next to the big green orc!

Edit.. However the minimum system requirements for world of warcraft has went up over the years due to the patches they added. So im not sure if that test will be up to date.

Hmm... okay, even though I passed, apparently, I didn't pass the recommended stuff. They recommend 1Gb RAM, which I don't have, Video HW Transform & Lighting which I don't have, Vertex Shader Ver. which Im also missing in my video card. Other than that, I passed everything else pretty good.

Since graphic cards are so expensive, Im not gonna waste all my money (which I dont even have) on a graphic card JUST for WoW. I might invest on more RAM later on though. Hopefully the game will run okay...ish.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
