The 49 Steps, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, terry pratchet's discworld novels, 1984, day of the triffids... too many to choose from!

If you want a classic novel that would be appropriate for reading in English, try Day of the Triffids, it's an old sci-fi book with an excellent plot! It has one boring chapter near the beginning explaining some history, but the rest is very interesting, and an excellent read!
