Yep you're right, i'm with you.
The only diff to me is just that one method is free and the other not.
For most of the things, both world have the same stuff... the only downsize i can think of is, that chips allows to run backups at 6x,while softmods only 3x, right?

Well that's one difference one being free and one ya gots to pay up...
But to me the reall difference is 2 things...

1. GameCube Backup Support...
-Yes a loader has been released but it is no where near as functional as a modchip...
-saves are a big problem...
-No SoundFix as far as I know...
-Allot of games do not work....

2. A modchip is really basically a guarantee almost that you can play backups even with future software updates... Just look at the track record....
Now you might say well what if big N updates software and blocks the mod... not saying that can't happen but... Just look at how well thats worked out... A modchip can be updated via dvd or jtag programmer and bam it's back in bizzness where a softmod I personally believe if big N wants to is gonna shit on you... They can make a change that can totally make it so you can't play any new games... software is just easier for them to fix... hardware that takes time... Not saying they don't make revisions but... with the chips that are out now I don't foresee Big N being able to deal with them but I do see Big N dealing with the softmod community....

Note/Edit: When I speak of changing the software, I know you can avoid updating but I'm talking about when they make a change you can't avoid.... and then you have to update...

Just my humble opinion....

It's a dumb question. hardmod all the why. But where is the magic in hardmod?
It looks like you're from USA, may I rag on your grammar? Also, if it's a dumb question, why did you say hardmod is better and then ask where the magic was? Better to ask a dumb question for a good answer than to be a natural dumbass

As it stands a chip installed by a competent person with genuine parts will give you the most from your Wii. if some sort of protection breaks the chip in the future and it cant be overcome with an update its not exactly going to break the bank to upgrade. Considering the fact that most modded users don't pay for games i consider the price of one or two chips pretty insignificant.

I guess the best answer to the initial post is it depends on what your capable of, or are willing to spend aswell as how capable or retarded you are in undertaking your chosen method.
I've modded original Xbox's before so I know I won't have a problem. Just however much the cost of the Wiichip is, as long as it doesn't give me problems, will be worth it. I'd like to keep it the Softmodding way if I can, but I've only gotten one game to work on +RW. I don't know if I wanna spend the money on a burner when I could get a chip.

ROFLMAO

Anyways, Steph, this question and a lot of your previous, has been asked multiple times. Pay respect to the search button and use it.

Furthermore, this topic had already been covered in HSG.

But if you dont like clicking another link, I'd say:

Get a chip if you have extra cash!
I use the search for everything. Guess what! It leads to google. Guess what! It leads to these forums. Guess what! I still never get the right answer I'm looking for. Screw the Search button; that's how I feel about it.

I thought it had more to do with the softmod's methods of loading than read speed alone. My Wiikey always loads at 3x and has 100% compatibility (so far) with my 30 or so burned games. The solder job has been stable for almost a year and a half.
