I have searched high and low for SD cards, but I can't seem to find any at all.

Now, I realised that is the least of my lack of knowledge about the matter.

Can anyone tell me what a good type/make and medium size to get?

hello. I have micro sd from various brands but all according to the recommendation have to be class 10. toshiba, philips... all 256gb, I also have kingstone 128gb. One very important thing is to fix the "lock" tab in the "no lock" position with adhesive tape to avoid deletion of data or movement of folders due to the involuntary change of position of the sd adapter tab when inserting the sd card into the slot from the wii

Almost any SD card works as long as it's formatted in FAT32.

I recommend brands Samsung and SanDisk (Western Digital) the most, but you can get SD cards from cheaper brands like Micro Center, Silicon Power, Team Group, etc.

The problem is, I can never find any SD card that is just a plain SD card and nothing but at say, Walmart.

@master801, you said any SD card, can I just get an SDHC?

I use ADATA and Kingston.
ADATA recently failed (two days ago) but it's working again.
Kingston, been using them for years (since 2008 !!!) and never had a problem with those.

Just make sure to format them to FAT32 with 32kb cluster.

Yes they work.
I've read in some places that the SD Slot can read up to 256GB in SD, but not sure, haven't had the opportunity to actually test this.
But again, as long as FAT32 and 32kb cluster, it should work perfectly.

Whatever sdcard (or microsd) you end up getting, make sure to check it for errors with h2testw, to make sure it's not faulty or fake. Yes, even if it's branded in the packaging as "Samsung", "SanDisk" or other known brands, as there're a lot of fakes out there with fake storage capacities..

Just my two cents... but as longs as you folks buy from official stores it should be good.
Also, remember to ask for a boucher when buying from official stores on-line... it'll help you with warranties and replacements if needed.
