From what i read here, you either need to get the new switchME modchip or adafruit m0 trinket. I want to know if any other trinket would work, one that's easier to find.

I believe that "trinket" is just the name of adafruit's microcontroller, meaning that the switchME modchip is not a "trinket". What you want is the SAMD21 chip. The itsybitsy m0 and gemma m0 are compatible, for example.
