What system has the best interface?

For me it's the 3DS. Animated icons and themes bring it to life.
I think I can't exactly say which i think it's the best, but i can tell which i like the most

Interfaces i like a lot, but not exactly had its consoles:

  • OG Xbox
It's black/green colour palette after that nuclear core intro and the X stylish combined is super 2000's peak vibe

  • Xbox 360
The 360 had some good interface within it's timeline, but the one i loved FOR REAL was the Blades interface. It was simple, stylish, beautiful and also, peak 2005's vibe too.

Now about the interfaces from consoles I had

I think I can easily say that the one I loved the most is the XMB from PSP. Simple, straight to the point, kinda futuristic vibes (?) I dunoo, I just miss my PSP Go

I love the Nintendo GameCube's interface and music due to the nostalgia thing I have about it. It's not necessarily the best, though, but it just feels right to me.

Are custom interfaces allowed? Because I've got my wii tweaked so it launches into a custom tailored wiiflow interface, complete with all the covers and categories nicely sorted out. :)

PC. lmao.

But otherwise PS3/PSP since it had sensible sub-folder nesting and allowed for backgrounds and custom icons for anyone who wished for em, plus it could play media files too. And I hope we didn't forget that PS3 allowed web browsing and linux installs off the bat.

I did like the second iteration of the Xbox 360 dashboard. I was really neutral about the XMB menu system, but I liked the PlayStation 3's sophisticated approach. It tried to be very refined compared to its predecessor.

Speaking of which, I am a fan of the PlayStation 2's menu, though I could do without that boot-up noise. There was something to its simplicity, and the memory card menu became a model viewer over time.

Some games even had multiple models, like Silent Hill 2. Some games, like Headhunter, would leave blue "CORRUPTED DATA" cubes! It was worth checking in on the memory card menu, from time to time.

EDIT: I'm sure I mentioned this in another thread, but it was strange how the PS2 always output DVD audio at a low volume. In college, I knew who had been watching a movie on their PS2 because, inevitably, they'd reboot the console afterwards, and the boot-up noise would blast through a quarter of the building.

This. The PS3's & PSP's XMB (Cross Media Bar) was truly unique, and really organizes stuff better than I thought it would. Yes, it had to grow on me, and it was weird at first, but now I love it.

Based on what metric?

I truly enjoyed the original Xbox interface and the Xbox 360 Blades dashboard. They were exciting, and the latter was far more functional than a lot of modern UI designs.

Sony’s XMB was clean and aesthetically pleasing. Also snappy enough.

My favorite though? Or what I consider to be best? Tough call, but I’d have to go with any console that didn’t rely on an interface. Being able to just pop in your game and let it handle what it needed to was far better than a guide or dedicated menu. Could just be my age, though..

That’s cheating though. I’m going to go with the Blades dashboard. Everything you needed was right there and it was snappy. Plus the guide was intuitive, responsive, and didn’t require phoning home to load.

Useability wise, I wasn't a fan of wii / 3ds - it's just one big grid, that doesn't even show on all of the screen.
3DS did have folders... so you can organize your grids into mini grids if you want.
Could you even "search" for things? I forget.
Switch and PS4 I don't like much.

XMB was very nice, and for PSP with the "Game Categories" plugin that let's you organize things even more.
