I mean, initially? Only 5, 6, and 10 weren't released in the US during the same release window as the originals, all the rest were available in the US pretty much the same release window as the JP ones (accounting for the usual year-ish delay for translation, of course).

It's not like the DQ games never showed up in the US after the first few games, they just weren't as popular as FF.

The PAL regions, on the other hand, didn't get shit for the main Dragon Quest series until 8, was only after that released (a couple years after it's JP release, too) that PAL regions was actually considered a viable market for the games for some reason.
I'm glad I was not in a PAL region lol.

They eventually brought 5 and 6 to the US? What system? I would be interested in that. I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to game series. I played DW 4 but didn't play any after that because 5 & 6 weren't available in the old days.

5 and 6 were released as remakes on the DS, they're also on Android and iOS as well.

I think the only game the US hasn't seen now in the main series is X, just cuz it was an MMO mostly

I’ve only played the first one, on the nes. The one on the gameboy is a legit port and I’ve played many hours on each. Finished the nes version. I’ll have to try 5 and 6, but only if they are top down. The 3D type don’t appeal to me.

Played em all aside from X of course:
Old school = V wins this one hands down for me, with III and IV next. VI was... okay I suppose. I & II are really dated now, but still great to see how the series started and slowly evolved.
...Is VII old or new school?! Dunno... it's not the best anyway so, phew!
'New school' VIII, particularly on the 3DS (and preferably with the proper music patched in!) wins here, with XI second. Was a bit disappointed with IX, coming from VIII of course! Still worth a play though, as are all DQ games!

Honestly if you want a quick one number one is good but my favorites I probably 4 5 and 6. The 4th game is split into chapters with multiple characters. I used to take a really long time on the chapter with torneko(the merchant), because you can go your own shop and make a ton of money with him
