whats the story with eshop downloading?

i have been watching my proxie server while eshop demo games download

it goes like this

13:49:16 - press download now
13:49:20 - box shows
13:49:26 - balls start to fall
13:53:24 - balls finished falling - box full - no data has transferred
13:53:49 - actual download starts
13:53:57 - download complete
13:54:02 - ribbons and bows

the actual download takes about 10 seconds – sometime more for bigger games
why all the drama with the little balls falling while its doing nothing?
is this to make me think the games are real big and worth a lot of money?

i saw this on many demos so far – long time of waiting – little time of actual downloading

It's probably a matter of the eShop communicating with Nintendo servers, Nintendo servers communicating with each other, processing payment, preparing files for download, creating unique download tickets, etc. There's a good amount of prep work to be done.

It's to make the process look professional and eye pleasing. This is a consumer device.
Another reason for slowness is https and other security stuff. A simple process would be easier to exploit.
