Compatibility wise they are the same, but Softmii (which uses CIOSCORP) allows loading from the disc channel. Search next time

In theory softmii has greater compatibility with games from your region, Sam&Max is one of the games which doesn't work with Gamma for example.

And Gamma has greater compatibility with import games, because you can select the used video mode.
