Protection or protected?
Protected mode is a thing later X86 family processors got which limited the options for one program to interfere with another, and in doing so basically run a modern operating system. http://wiki.osdev.org/Protected_Mode has a bit more on it all.

What game is it? An awful lot of games of that era got ported either officially or via homebrew to the GBA, DS or something either of those can emulate. I should also say that while DSx86 is a fantastic piece of code it is rather limited in what it can do, and that tends to mean games can be tricky to do. If you are thinking you want to relieve your 486 days then know that is not going to happen, at least outside of ported versions of games.

According to https://www.cnet.com/products/conquest-of-the-new-world-pc/specs/ it requires a 486, and being from 1996, not to mention being something of a flagship/graphical tour de force game, it was never likely to run on older things either. That means DSX86 in all its forms is out, never mind a R4 in DS mode. Not really done much with the 3ds side of things, though looking at other things you stand a chance there.

No console/other devices and no source/recreation either that I can see.
