There's also a way of using burnt discs on the later models using a swap trick or something, can't remember.

good n64 controllers are hard to find and expensive new ones literally impossible.
dreamcast is amazing and would be the best choice if most of the important games weren't remade for later systems. mvc2 sonic adventure 1 & 2 crazy taxi.
so despite it being my least favorite console ps1 is the logical choice or just a ps2 full backwards compatibility and like $50

If you can get a version 1 Dreamcast, it'll run burnt CD-Rs out of the box. You can run PS1 games on an emulator, and most games work extremely well and look and sound better on the emulator than they do on their native hardware, thanks to some amazing plug-ins. And if you have a Wii, most of the N64 games worth playing are on VC, and easy to pirate.

Just found one at a thrift shop for $10 and with one ligit game very easy to load up any other copy game

Shenmue, and all the other amazing games.
Games like Ocarina of time, Super Mario 64, and others are on the Virtual Console and can be emulated.
