if you go online, you will be banned it may not be immediately but it is inevitable, it is strongly advised that you stay in airplane mode when using a Switch with CFW

There are no risks in modding it, the risks are in what you do with it after you've modded it. (assuming your console is softmoddable and does not require a modchip ofc)
The most likely risk is getting banned depending on what you do, but can be easily avoided using an emuNAND for all your CFW stuff and blocking Nintendo servers. In OFW it's still safe to go online normally.
Accounts aren't affected by console bans.

is it possible to get the account banned. or is it only u get ur nintendo switch banned?
The Switch console itself, so it won't be able to connect to Nintendo servers and update the games or the system.

Don't know if an account ban is possible too.

if you buy digital download games, you'd be a dumbass to mod your switch and expect that you'll still be able to access them. all of the switch consoles I have that have gone online have been banned almost immediately. going into airplane mode and then expecting to somehow go online at some point is foolish, too.

you're better off having your current system for your digital downloads and online gaming and buying a separate modded system that you keep off of your nintendo account for pirated games. that's right, 2 consoles. switch systems are cheap anyways.

"oh no, I gave you money and you banned my account, oops I guess I'll make a new account and spend it again"

nobody normal does this

it only drives normal people to piracy

A banned Switch can still get system updates the last time I checked. If modded one can simply locate the firmware and use daybreak.

While they are much less expensive now than they were, running OFW on sysnand and CFW on emunand is pretty difficult to mess up as well.

This actually depends on the type of ban, with a normal ban you can still download from Nintendo's CDN, but with a CDN ban or "superban" you're also banned from receiving HorizonOS updates.

Yeah but really the only way people would get banned is by piracy or cheating. So the argument is kinda null and void.
