Hacking Western Digital Passport or Seagate Freeagent Go?

I want to get a 500 gb model of either one, but I'm not sure which one is better. I plan to use it primarily for my laptop on the go and also I will have a WBFS partition on it for my Wii...so I need to know:

Has better Wii compatabilitiy?
Which one is faster (read/write speed)?
Which one consumes less battery life?
Which one is lighter/thinner?


If someone who has experience with both or knows enough about them could recommend me one that would be great, thanks~

You should learn to do a google search for any tech specs you may ever need. All you need to search for is: 'WD passport specs' or 'seagate freeagent go specs' and you find most of your answers very quick.

Edit: I've not used either of these portable drives, but in my desktop my Seagate drive has out-lasted all of my WD drives.

I'd go with the WD. I use the 320gb model for my Wii backups and it's never given me any problems.

Why not try Transcend StoreJet Mobile with protection. It has perfect compatibility, it is protected against drops, has excellent speed and I believe the best price for gigabytes. I've been using it for a while and I'm very happy with it.

I use a Freeagent Go and I don't have any problems with it.

Western Digital drives have "SPIN DOWN" which cannot be turned off. Get the Seagate...

I have a Seagate 1.5TB drive and it works awesome with both my Wii WBFS and my PC (using 3 partitions).

free agent desk , crapped out on me RMA new ones good i guess.

37.99 for express shipping paid by ME to send it back.

i always have to unplug my drive after using it, i guess i do it because itll prolong the life . anyways yeah get the free agent go they are better then desk.

I can recommend the 500gb Freeagent Go, because I've set up three of these, and they all work flawlessly with no problems. They power on with the Wii, recognize immediately, and have the ability to turn off standby mode (spindown).

Western Digital is popular, and the initial hardware wiki pointed towards the brand being the most compatible. I have a 120gb WD passport to watch movies on my PS3, and it works great, but I've never tried WD for USB loaders. Some say that newer loaders with newer cIOS_rev versions eliminates spindown, and some say it doesn't. I can verify the Freeagent Go never has this problem.

I just want to restate this point already made: Check the Compatibility list. There would be nothing worse than buying a good drive and it not doing what you want because of some incompatibility.
