Hacking Weird white rubber blob?

Okay, this might be weiird...but I replaced a shell for this chick whose DS lite had a broken shell.
And I had a really tough time opening it up at first, and when I finally popped it open, it had a weird...rubbery white-ish glob inside of it?
She says the DS is NOT refurbished, she bought it brand new and she has no clue of what it could be, and that she doesn't think she ever spilled anything on it.
I'm inclined to believe her since its small and kind of in the middle, not like something that seeped in through the sides or whatever.
It doesn't affect how the thing plays in any way, but it was kind of annoying because I couldn't really close the shell all the way in the end. It's kind of...lumpy and ugh, whyyy. I even shaved some of the glob away to maybe try and close it but it still has a hump.

I could post a picture if anyone's interested...but it's a cell phone picture so it might not be very good.

Anyway. I was just wondering if any one had any clue what this could've been? I mean...it was just really baffling to me.

I have had that in every single DSlite I have opened. It doesn't effect anything and as far as I can guess, it might be used as some sort of seal to check if the DS has been opened or not.

Really!! This is the first time I've ever seen it after opening about a dozen or so DS'es...
But that's really interesting to know. Hers was also one that she got like right when the DS came out.
Is this just something stopped doing later on, maybe?

iv just put my friends ds in a new case and his had the same lump of white glue stuff inside his ds, i couldnt get the botton part of the shell on so i pulled a little piece of grey plastic off the bottom shell and it went on smoothly

I've seen it inside a few DS lites, it covers the processor of the DS. It might be a coolant or something.

I got my DSL at launch and when I replaced my shell it wasn't in there.

So after it was released something must of gone wrong and they needed something to protect it, which is probably the blob.

Haha, sorry I'm late to the party...

Yeah, here is the picture. From my cell phone.
Now it doesn't look so bad here, 'cause I'd already shaved most of it away so it's not as obtrusive looking as it was.
It basically was like someone shoved a wad of gum inside the DS. It was really hard for me to close up...
but it sounds like a lot of people didn't really have trouble with it. And it appears it's not as out of the ordinary as I thought!

my new mobo had the same stuff on, it was very hard to close the case so i took a little bit of grey plastic off the bottom case and it shut easily
