hmm, everyone here is saying MArio Kart Wii works. Sadly I see nothing but a black screen when I launched it. Anyone know of the burn speed I should burn it at??

Look around the Wii - Hacking subforum, I believe someone opened up a thread about that. As far as I know there are two factors that the successful running of a game depends on:

1. Quality of the DVD-R media
2. Game and console region

I use TDK and Verbatim DVD-R and all the games work fine. I used Imation DVD-R media before and the game wouldn't even boot up. Also be sure that both the game and your consoles region are the same.
Sometimes, it also depends on the speed of which you burn them. I have FujiFilm DVD+R. They all run quite fine. But once when I burned the game at a different speed, I got a -4100 error so it also depends on the speed of which you burn them.

Thanks for the input. I burn all my games on 2,4 and they all work perfectly fine so I didn't even think about burning speed being a factor.

yep. I got it to work. Thanks. (I used 2.4x and it worked). But sadly it does not load up the second stage. When I click Flower Cup, it plays the first stage very well but right as about stage 2 will load its just a black screen. Any help on this matter? Thanks.

Sorry, can't help you there. Most if not all of the people who have tried playing Mario Kart with the backup-loader have had this problem. It's most likely that the game just isn't compatible with the 3x loading speed of the application.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition [PAL] - NOT WORKING [Green Screen. Also, the Patcher generates a 'unknown' ISO type. (?)]

That's it for now, next up:

I'll re-run all the tests using TDK or Verbatim disc as soon as I get my hands on them.

Ok, then 2 more questions:

1. Shouldn't using WiiFrii or RegionFrii correct this issue when converting the ISO to NTSC?
2. If not then why not, and am i just outta luck or is there a workaround?

No, don't even bother with Imation discs. I used Imation on Wii Chess, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Geometry Wars Galaxies and none of the games worked. Then I switched to TDK and Verbatim DVD-R and the games work flawlessly.

Well, I don't have any other disks at this time, but I'll try to buy some when I get time to do it. Anyway, 2 of the games actually booted and only halted thanks to the low read speed. Doesn't that mean Imation disks are ok?

Using WiiFrii changes the region of a game to the region of the console the game is played on. The "spinning" issue with NTSC/PAL combinations is a hardware issue on your television set. You can't change that, unless you buy a PAL TV or get one who can run both PAL and NTSC.

So, to recap: The region on a game is a type of software validation thingy for updates, while the region of a television set is a hardware issue which cannot be changed.

QUOTE(creffca @ Sep 22 2008, 02:21 AM) Like a lot of people have been pointing out the apploader runs in PAL mode, regardless of the region of the disc or wii.

No work around yet, but if there were it would most likely have to be a binary hack of the apploader to support NTSC mode.

EDIT Poltergeist. also speaks truth.

Booting up a game isn't the same as running it. You said it yourself, the games halted because of the low read speed. What good is a game you can only boot and not play? You need a disc with decent or better read speed. TDK and Verbatim discs provide such read speeds and allow you to successfully run a game.

Believe me, after I switched from Imation to TDK every game I tried booted and played properly every game I previously mentioned including House of the Dead 2&3 (well, only 3 works with the backup-loader, it's a known fact) and Godzilla: Unleashed.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that discs could affect reading speed. Well, live & learn I guess

Well, I'll try to get some TDK or Verbatin discs tomorrow and will re-run the tests and post the results. I'm not sure if I'll post them right away, but I'll do it as soon as I can

This has probably something to do with the Backup Creator, and not with the ISO/Backup Loader. I just finished downloading the 2nd ISO and I get the same error. I hope someone can get a workaround. I'll get a RE4 NTSC ISO and test it AFTER testing again all the games with TDK discs. [Except for RE4, because I can't get backup loader to work right with it...]

I'll re-run all the tests (Except for RE4, because it is a problem with the Backup Creator and not the Discs/Backup Loader) using TDK or Verbatim disc as soon as I get my hands on them.

After that, the next ISOs I'll download/test are:
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn [PAL]
Mahou Sensei Negima - Neo Pactio Fight [NTSC-J]

That's it for now.

Anyone have a problem with the backup creator.
I have used a few iso's that are 4.3gb approx in size.
when patched they are 250mb approx.

games so far

ea playground
london taxi rush hour
]

i think that happened to me once, but then i just re-patched it, and it was the right size.
i was thinking somehow it was interupted.

Tried it a few times but no luck.
even with the GUI .
its a strange one, as there are reports on the wiki site that london taxi rush hour works?

Try closing down all applications that were running during your first patching. Stuff like Firefox, torrent clients, MSN, Winamp, etc. and then try again.

Dang still the same. some games show up fine, others just showing as around 250mb. the mind boggles.

I have 5 backups so far all run and are in color with standard cables (ntsc wii). The games are Wii Chess (pal iso), Excite Truck (pal iso), Guitar Hero with RockBand Songs (ntsc iso), Star Wars TFU (ntsc patched to pal), and Mario Sluggers (patched to pal). All of them are playable except the Guitar Hero one, because the note charts jump all over the place when I can hear the Wii from the disc. I would assume it's a probably with the loader and the read speed, but others claim that the guitar hero customs work. Is this fixable by using Verbatim discs insted of the no-name ones I have?
