I have asked before, and seen it asked by others but I still have not got an answer. Can someone please explain the need/value of switching IOS with wad manager. I'm sure there is one I just "don't get it."

If you have IOS249, there is no need.
But if IOS249 gets corrupted or deleted, it can be very useful.
You can change the IOS to IOS250 (backup of IOS249) or some other IOS with the trucha bug so you can install wads again.

EDIT:

phpgeek explained it better

Thanks for explaining, more safety precautions is never a bad thing. Will give this another week or two to see if it comes out of beta then make the switch.

i get error ret1020 if i try to install secret of mana

edit:/ just unpack the wad-> truchasigned-> repack-> install-> be happy

What I am curious about: should the WAD manager work straight away when the HBC is installed?

I have some problems on running a WAD manager on a 3.1E and 3.2E firmware Wii. I get an error -1. I am trying to install a VC or WiiWare WAD by running the WAD manager 1.3 via the HBC (error -1).

Is a custom cIOS necessary or not to run the WAD manager? Or should it run straight away on a Wii with the HBC?

Greetings!

Klaafstra

I have, like Klaafstra, a noob question.

Could Wad Manager 1.3 or 1.4 work without cIOS ???

I actualy use the version 1.1 ( that dont use cIOS as i know ) without problems on my 3.2E. Should i use the newer version for any reason that i don't know

Thanks

As vettacossx pointed out, Wad Manager requires IOS249. IOS249 is essentially cIOS36 so yes, a custom IOS is required and not just anyone - a specific one.

I posted this earlier:

Download (custom):
- Binary: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta2-custom.rar (compiled dol ready for use)
- Source: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta2-custom.tar.bz2 (uncompiled source code)

This version allows you to boot Wad Manager with ANY IOS though you must pick one with the trucha enabled bug to install VC/WiiWare. If you pick an IOS that isn't trucha enabled it will let you know.

Wad Manager 1.4 Beta 3:

Download (unofficial):
- Binary: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta3-unofficial.rar (compiled dol ready for use)
- Source: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta3-unofficial.tar.bz2 (uncompiled source code)

Download (custom):
- Binary: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta3-custom.rar (compiled dol ready for use)
- Source: WAD-Manager_v1.4_beta3-custom.tar.bz2 (uncompiled source code)

The custom build contains an "ANTI-BRICK WARNING" if you attempt to delete an IOS or System Menu. I removed the IOS Selection modification that I put in beta 2 because Waninkoko has now taken the idea on board himself and has made it a feature in Beta 3. Nice work Waninkoko

...

on 3.2 you still have the trucha-bug.

for higher versions you need custom/patched/old_versions_with_bug IOS's installed to allow install wads with wadmanager.
