i don't see the point of that release, because there isn't a way to play it on your wii because there isn't a wad packer

Not really true, not only is there not a "Public" one, there is absolutely nothing I could find talking about a "private" one either. Not a name of a program, not any commercial "BUY A WAD PACKER" or "CREATE WAD FILES". I even spent a few hours in the homebrew "scene" if you will, i'm sure as hell I could create a homebrew game all by myself, create elf files and the whole thing, but I still have no clue how to create WAD files from .app files.

Anyways long story short, there is no method for us mere mortals to pack these files (if they are even real) into something use'able. It may have been released this way as proof-of-concept to ensure that the masses do not have access to Virtual Console exploitation.

It is false. Wad packer exist.
I past yesterday one hour to see how the homebrew channel is installing in my wii.
In fact the homebrew_channel.elf is a wad installer containing the wad of the homebrew chanel.
Using an hex editor you can see the start of the wad at the address 219c0 (approximately i don't really remember)
I extract the wad and use deswad on it and the file that appear is same file than i was able dump from my wii after installing the homebrew channel (with NAND Dump FS).

It means that creators of the homebrew channel own a wad packer to create the homebrew channel installer.

The point is that if some devellopers wants to create an new channel for their homebrews, they will need a wadpacker.
