If you really want to hear about this stuff from someone who actually knows exactly what they're talking about, see if you can get some of the guys in #wiidev on EFnet to talk to you (just as long as it doesn't consist of warez talk - hacking the VC for the purposes of running homebrew is acceptable)Actually you're wrong. I know the thinking behind what you're trying to propose (I thought similarly when I was looking into this a month or two ago), however the method the Wii uses to interface with the shop does not simply involve grabbing a few files - there's unknown functions of unknown objects to be called (both server-side and in the wii), etc. etc.
Well I'll trust what you say, for now
I still want to create some proper logs of what the wii does in communication with the server - because im still confident it can be done. If I get anywhere I'll post my results (as I said I wont have time to do this for at least two weeks probably).

DGSystems, go read up on public key encryption theory.I know that, but thinking about it on a basic level:
W = Wii, S = Server
W: lemme see some games...
S: ok we have...
W: I'll take that one
S: ok, you can now download it
.....
now surely sending that exact same sequence of messages will have the exact same results? (unless of course there is some measurement of time in the encryption) assuming that the server knows nothing about the client which is connected (which seems to be true)
I just checked the tmd file I have downloaded and the one on http://darkfader.net/wii/vc for Super Mario Bros. They're not the same...
LOL if Dark_AleX was into Wii he prolly hack it
