Vanced still works but there's a lot of ads displayed, and has been like this for at least 6 months.. Tried patching the official YT app the other day, it didn't work, it only works for rooted devices which mine isn't.
I'm looking for a decent alternative as well..

What Vinny said. ReVanced is the new way to use AdBlock and SponsorBlock on the YouTube app.
Instead of distributing the copyrighted application pre-patched, you have to download an APK and patch it yourself. It's more of a hassle to update the app now, but it should be C&D-proof.
The original was C&D proof until the dev decided to try and sell shit in the app.

That's a mistake on ReVanced's part. You don't have to patch the YouTube app itself, but rather the YouTube APK.
This is an atrocious thing they forget to mention. You need to patch a downloaded APK of YouTube from ApkMirror, and then use that APK for patching in Revanced Manager. If you try patching the installed YouTube App in your phone, it will always fail to do anything. Try using the APK, patch it, and then you'll see Revanced with no issues.

I'll give this one a go; thanks for sharing! I've been using NewPipe ever since Vanced went down, but it's just not comparable since there's a different use case behind it.
Why not ReVanced? Been using it as a replacement and it's great.

I'm not too keen on the username change, but to be fair, Google is guilty of that. E.g. my username was "MarcLFD" and now it's "@marclfd298". Meh.

also make sure it's the base apk, not like the xxdpi apks. that's what worked for me anyways

Revanced is not recognized as the official alternative to YouTube Vanced. It's important to note that the development and distribution of modded versions of the YouTube app, such as YouTube Vanced, are not endorsed or supported by YouTube or its parent company, Google. These modded versions often provide additional features like ad-blocking, background playback, and more.
While there may be other projects or unofficial forks that aim to provide similar features to YouTube Vanced, it's recommended to exercise caution when using such applications. Third-party apps and modifications can potentially compromise the security of your device or violate YouTube's terms of service.
To ensure a secure and legitimate experience, it is generally recommended to use the official YouTube app or consider subscribing to YouTube Premium, which provides ad-free playback, background playback, offline downloads, and access to YouTube Originals.
Have we a Google chief account here?

I've been using SmartTubeNext a lot and it's absolutely fantastic. No ads, skips sponsors in-video, and works perfectly with a remote.

Hi Guys,
Vanced still functioning, but plagued by ads for 6 months now. Attempted patching official YT app to no avail; requires rooted device, which I don't have.
You only need a rooted device if you wish to patch your already installed YouTube app. You can download an APK from a trusted source (like APKMirror), patch that, then intall it.
