You only need a rooted device if you wish to patch your already installed YouTube app. You can download an APK from a trusted source (like APKMirror), patch that, then intall it.

I don't understand. What smileyhead said is correct. Revanced can patch on non-rooted devices if you use a downloaded APK.

They have a Github and an XDA thread (useful if you have an Android 6-7 device as there's apk for it) which you can get the ReVanced apks from.
