I currently have a transcend RDF8. Great reader, unfortunetly, it doesn't get along with the x99 chipset. It will randomly disconnect while reading/writing to it. It's not the card reader, it works fine on the Asmedia chipset on my 990fx sabertooth and it's not the x99 chipset as my other usb3 devices are all fine. Everything is up to date (drivers, firmware on the card reader), so I guess it's just a compatiblity issue.

So looking for a card reader that's confirmed working with X99. And before anyone says "any should work", while that should be what happens, it's clearly not the case when it comes to usb3 (just look at usb3 capture cards for absurd "works only with X chipset with Y firmware").

Thanks.

It could be just a bad header on the motherboard

Other usb 3 devices are fine in the same 4 ports on the back. I've also tried both expansion headers on the board with a usb 3 backplate and once again, everything except the card reader behaves fine. USB3 is just an awful standard and has no business having "universal" in it's name.
