I don't know about anyone else but I hate having trailing wires everywhere, and wires on show. It's also a pain having to disconnect the HDD from the wii and transfer it to the PC everytime I want to update the games etc on the HDD.

So I want to run a USB cable from the PC to where the Wii and HDD is stored and use some kind of splitter/ switch so that all cables remain in situ, but I can access the HDD when needed from the PC- obviously only when the wii is off.

is this possible?

Yes, this is most certainly possible.
Try a quick Google of "USB switch" or "USB splitter" and you'll find a bunch of results.

I do not know of any reliable ones (not that most aren't reliable, just that I don't know much about them), but a lot of them look like very cheap little devices.
Perhaps someone else here could point you in a good direction.
