@TonyBologna:
No problem, I'm glad it's working

@Albatroz:
No, nothing has been done since the v2.2 release.

We got beta user's reports about long-time bugs after the release instead of telling it before the release
ninja.gif

But nothing fixed yet.
Dimok didn't work on it since then, he might be in vacation.
I'm still learning C/C++ and I can't do a f#'!@ working file parser by myself

(I wish I could help more)

You can check the beta thread regularly to see if there's a new revision to test.
check also the latest available revisions (not release) here.

PS :
I updated the first post on this topic with v2.2 informations.

I have the Forwarder, and a 1TB Seagate Go Flex Desk. USB Loader was working very well until I plugged it in again the next day and instead of loading, it brings me back to the System Menu. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but thanks anyway.

If you updated the forwarder recently, but are still on an old Wii System menu, you may be missing the IOS58.
Install IOS58 with this homebrew.

If you already have IOS58, check that you have the boot.dol correctly placed on your SD or USB.
It has to be on /apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol

If it's present, try launching the loader from Homebrew channel instead of the forwarder to see if it's working or if it's reseting to HBC too.

I don't have more ideas for the moment

It turns out my baby brother accidentally deleted the program from the SD card so I just have to get it again

So... is there anyway to use wiinnertags in the 2.2 version?
I found the wiinnertag option on the loader, but it's still not working.
Did you changed the key (your password) in the created "Example" file, or do you think it will magically recognize you and update your account without first asking your account information?

You have to create the example files, enable winnertag, enable Auto-init network, and edit the winnertag.xml
Note that the created file is only an example file...

I'm unable to find such file. Would be stored on /config, right? Nope, not seeing such file.

Or maybe I'm being such a noob, about creating my OWN wiinnertag.xml. I wouldn't know... was the post from I'm quoting the correct syntax?

load USBloaderGX and go to the settings > Features menu.

enable Winntertag line, and it will tell you that you have to enable network AutoInit if it's disabled, accept it.
Then it will ask you if you want to create an example file, agree and it will tell you the saved path on your SD card.

Now back on your computer, go to that path (usually the same path as the boot.dol) and you will find a Winnertag.xml

OR

You can just copy/paste this in a new file named Winntertag.xml in sd:/config or sd:/apps/usbloader_gx/ (depend the one you are using).

CODE

Replace the key="1234567890" with your own account key.
and enable the Winntertag option in the settings.

Hello!

As many others, I'm having a problem. And I hope you excuse my noobiness when it comes to this. It's my first time ever trying this on my Wii.

So I followed lifehackers guide to installing HBC and USB Loader GX. (http://lifehacker.com/5518518/how-to-back-up-and-play-your-wii-games-from-an-external-hard-drive)

And after that I tried putting Muramasa: The demon blade on my Hard drive to play on my Wii.
So I start up USB Loader, and the game is there with it's cover and everything. And I try to play it, it kicks me back to the homebrew channel!

If there's any information I need to provide in order for you to help me with my problem, please let me know!
I've googled all day to try to find a solution to my problem.

The problem with following random guides on the internet is that they often are outdated, ill-supported, and may be written by someone who doesn't really know enough to be teaching others.....The Lifhacker guide you reference for example still recommends Waninkoko's cIOS rev17.....the scene has long ago passed on that rev....

To get your Wii back in shape I recommend on re-modding your Wii using ModMii. Just follow the ModMii wizard ('W' option) and choose to re-download all files as if your Wii is a virgin. ModMii will generate a guide for you to follow...follow it. If you need help with ModMii, post the problem with as much supporting detail as you can in the ModMii Thread >here

I take it I'm screwed if I already updated to 4.3 right? (I installed HBC 1.0.8 prior to updating, and this is WAY before installing Priiloader and Bootmii as Boot2). Will doing so make it so I can no longer external USB HDD for backups? What I'm trying to say is, will I still be able to load backups from a USB HDD despite the fact that I updated to 4.3 six months ago?

you can launch games via USB on 4.3 just fine (doesn't matter if you updated to 4.3 6 months ago or yesterday, or it came from the factory that way)....you just need the appropriate cIOS and loader apps....

Everything launched on the Wii depends on only one IOS, each IOS have different functionality, Nintendo created new IOSes instead of updating the same one. (you can consider it like multiple firmwares containers instead of "4.3 firmware").
4.3 is in fact a program, like any homebrew, not a firmware.
When you launch System menu 4.3, it loads IOS70 because it contains the needed functions to run correctly.
When you launch Homebrew channel, it loads IOS58, because it contains USB 2.0 access functionality (and doesn't care what System menu version or region you current have installed on your console)
When you run an USB loader, it's the same except that you can choose which IOS to use (249, 250, 222 etc.)

It's the cIOS which grants you USB access regardless of the current system menu version.

You only have to update your cIOSes and you will be able to use USBloaders.
Latest recommended cIOS is d2x_v6 (it supports Dol reloading games, like Metroid prime Trilogy, CSI games, sam & max)

Ah, thanks for clearing that up! So in other words, when I get a USB HDD (near future), I can use USB LoaderGX for bothripping and playingISOs, right? But what I find confusing is the whole FAT32/NTFS; which is used for ISO images, NTFS or FAT32? I also assume that I could probably use CleanRip as well...I think.
As to which program(s) I use for both making and launching ISOs is the reason I'm asking. There are so many guides (from one or two years ago) that I don't even know where to begin. And with the whole cIOS is d2x_v6 thing, I assume there's a download for that. I fear lest I have to remod/re-hack my Wii with ModMii. I've already installed cIOS236, but the whole d2x_v6 is also managed via Multi Mod Manager? I thought installing/updating too many cIOSes would screw something up.

Just use modmii. Its up to date (including d2x v6) and even prints a guide customized for your current setup.

So "yes" to using modmii and add the hacks to overwrite the already existent ones installed? I would think that'd mess something up. I assume I just need to change the cIOS once and I'm good to go. Now I just need to find a good 300-500GB USB HDD (preferably Western Digital, and not Seagate; too many issues).

Again, just use ModMii. It will upgrade your Wii with the latest files including current cIOS. Using ModMii will be better for you in the long run as it not only will update your cIOS, it will squash any other problems you might encounter as a result of following an older guide.

Use ModMii. Get the foundation of your Wii set, then bother with the framing...

Gotcha, it would be better to just reinstall the hacks, cIOSes, etc. to avoid problems in the future. I apologize for sounding so vexatious. But like I said before, I have the following installed

HBC 1.0.7
Priiloader 0.7b
BootMii on Boot2

So, after generating all the files with ModMii and loading the SD card, I don't know if my Wii will get bricked. I just don't want any hack-conflicts with preexisting hacks.

EDIT 6:02 PM DISREGARD

It won't be conflicting.
just remember that you need to reinstall bootmii boot2 and re-create the bootmii/ SD files when updating HBC.

I like doing it manually, but if you are not too familiar with the wii internal you may just use ModMii.
It will create a lot of wad files for you to install and replace old ones. It won't brick your wii if you follow the created guide.

Just know that if you want to do it manually instead of ModMii batch :
1 - You don't need to update your wii or HBC (I'm still on 3.2 and HBC1.0.6 and it's working fine, except arguments from hbc which I'm not using for the moment)
2- Like I said, the USBloader will ONLY depends on the cIOS you select. It won't conflict with System menu, homebrew menu, other cIOS or other IOS.
3- You can just install/update cIOS d2x v6 using the homebrew installer, or
4- You can use modmii to create d2x v6 only instead of all the IOS/cIOSes

5- If you have Bootmii install as Boot2, you can boot directly your Wii in HBC, it loads faster and it doesn't load Priiloader+System menu. (you don't need it to launch usbloaders).
6- you can also make Bootmii Boot2 load USBLoaderGX forwarder instead of HBC or priiloader+boot.dol

7- You don't need Priiloader if you have Bootmii Boot2 (except if you want to patch your system menu? but not as brick protection)

8- If you want to update to HBC1.0.8, first install IOS58

As said, it requires that you know what you are doing and what your wii is made of.

About FAT32/NTFS :
•Having these partition is good because you can use the HDD for computer storage too (music, movies etc.)
•FAT32 can also be used by the Wii to store homebrew (NTFS is not supported by a lot of Wii homebrew)
•FAT32 can't have files bigger than 4GB, but it's not a problem with USBloaders as game iso are split into multiple files "when" needed (most games takes less than 4GB of real data). Use WiiBackupManager to convert an iso to wbfs and transfer/install it to your HDD automatically.
•NTFS can be used too, it's working with all USBLoaders, but other homebrew can't use it.
•USBLoaders (GX at least) can rip game's data to FAT32 and NTFS without problem. (it's not 1:1 iso, it's .wbfs files)
•You can use CleanRip to make a 1:1 4.7GB iso but you will need an NTFS partition or wifi to dump it on your computer. Then use WiiBackupManager to convert/transfer it to your hard drive to take less size. Best choice is to rip them directly with the USBloader if you don't want 1:1 image for archives purpose.

Oh...maybe I didn't mention that I already had HBC 1.0.8 installed on System Menu 4.3 and that Priiloader and Bootmii were already installed as well. If I didn't mention that earlier, I'm sorry. But either way, it looks like I still would need to reinstall both Priiloader/Bootmii, and the files are generated with ModMii; from there I just click on the applications via the HBC and they install again. But yes, right I use Priiloader to disable all mandatory system updates (disc and online), and to make to disable region locking. Alright, I generate the files for both Priiloader/BootMii as Boot2 and give this a whirl. Ugh. I feel like such a noob!

To sum up, I already have:

System Menu 4.3U, HBC 1.0.8, Priiloader 0.7 and Bootmii 0.6 installed. Disregard my earlier post where I said 1.0.7 instead.

Edit 11:54 AM - Installed all the WAD files without fail, and everything is working (HBC, Priiloader, etc). I think I'm set for good.
