I would recommend that you avoid ext4. ext3 SHOULD be fine. the reason i say this is that the ext library is ported by dimok from another one. i used the windows version of this library some time ago. i gave it write access to an ext4 HDD and it destroyed everything... completely wiped it out.

it doesnt matter how well dimok ported the library. if it still had this bug in the original version, then there probably still is the bug in the wii version. there is no read-only option, so if you ever do something that makes the loader want to write to the HDD, there is no stopping it.

i have tested out the library writing to ext3 and it worked fine. it wrote several GB, i verified that data in my PC and it was as expected. actually playing the games, there is no noticeable difference. speed is the same, no crashes. the real benefit of using ext3 is simply on the PC side. the big downside of using ext3 on the wii is that this library is PAINFULLY slow to read the bitmap. it will read this bitmap on the first attempt to write any data. so, for the loader to write even a 1KB file, i have to wait 1-3 minutes ( for a 500GB partition ). after the bitmap has been read, there is no waiting and it is fast.

Kittymat - does the update to 249 r21b base 56 d2x completely solve the stuttering issue on WD Portable Elements drives?

Also, what Seagate drives have you been using?

Thanks...

On v2 I have had no issues with stuttering in the loader or games (v1 cured GX but issues with mic games)

Seagate GoFlex works fine.

thanks giantpune, ext3 is also perfect for me!

And for the bitmap... When it needs to read it?
If, for example, I transfer all of the games on the PC, and GX only launches... There's also this 1-3 min lag? Maybe only if I download covers with GX?

the bitmap is read at the first attempt to write to the HDD. im not sure if this involves deleting a file. but it definitely includes writing a file ( ripping a game, saving a config file, downloading a cover ). there is not the huge lag if you only use the partition for reading operations ( necessary ones for starting the loader and loading a game ).

After updating the wii if I put an original disc in and try to back it up onto hard drive it will not read the disc. Usbloader says that it reads it, but it says its not a wii disc.

The disc will play fine, it just wont backup. Has anyone else experienced this before? How do I fix it?? I dont even know where to start.
I've got a Wasabi DX chip and Im on 4.2u I'm using the latest version of usbloader.

Thanks

If you still have a backup of your old statistics files, then :
create and save an individual game setting, and play a game with the new version.

Then open both your old and new config files, and report the changes from the new settings in the old one and replace the new files with the old+modified one.
That's how I did it, and it worked fine.

If you don't have a backup, then you need either to create them manually based on the same layout (1 line per games), or do as Shano said

And that is the SysCheck report. Anyone know whats wrong with my wii and why USBloader will not backup any games? Wrong IOS configuration? Bad USBloader? or Bad Chip?
thanks

Hi,
I've just upgraded USBLoader GX from rev938 to 2.0 (with the .dol on my SD card and the Forwarded Channel installed).
I also upgraded cios38 (from Waninkoko) rev20 to rev21, and Hermes rev 5 to rev 5.1
Since I did this my games don't work properly : for Super Smash Brawl for instance it says "Please insert a disc" or something randomly in the introduction video. For Mario Sports Mix the game just freeze at any times.
I tried with a disc (Zelda TP) in the Wii but it didn't change anything.
Before the update everything was okay and my games worked properly.
I tried to launch again the rev938 loader but the game won't launch (probably because the update of cios38)
My Wii is 4.2E.

So what should I do ?
Thank you.

Telling that you updating cIOS to rev21 doesn't help if you don't tell which base you used.
if updating cIOS didn't work well for you, did you try going back to older one ?

What partition type are you using ? if it's wbfs, you can always reinstall cIOS rev17.
if it's fat32/ntfs, you can reinstall hermes v4 (37+38).

For smash brawl, maybe a wrong base IOS for your cIOS? rev17 read dual layer fine, you could try to go back to that one.
Is it wbfs partition, .wbfs, .iso ?

For other black-screen games at launch, set video to "game by default" instead of "system by default".

Going back to 938 need cIOS rev17 or Hermes v4, don't use 938 with newer cIOS.
On the other way, newer loader works fine with older cIOS. But it should also work without problem with newer cIOS base 38, 56 or 57. Don't use base58.

Hi, thank you for your answer.
Well, I am using a NTFS drive with .wbfs games on it.
I don't get any black-screen at launch, the games launch properly but it freezes in the middle of a game, and it can be at any moment.
I choosed base 58, so maybe it's the problem. I will try with base 38, 56 or 57 as you said.
When all was working properly I was on cios rev20b so if changing the base don't do anything I will try to return to rev 20b. Should I uninstall rev21 first or can I override it by directly installing rev20b ?
And in USBLoaderGX, what is the best ios to choose ? 249 or 250 ?
Sadly I won't be at home until friday so I can't test right now.

That's how I did it, and it worked fine.
the name of the new one is GXGameStatistics.cfg
the name of the old one is GXGameFavorites.cfg

but when I copy the GXGameFavorites.cfg and past it in GXGameStatistics.cfg it will rest count to zero

so is it becuse I copy all then past it all and the new one has change it's ways ?

i think it will be that way

@Spiderben :
yeah, that's certainly because of IOS58 as base.
IOS56 has the fastest USB access
IOS57 is required for few games (CoD black ops)
IOS38 is the historically used for best compatibility, but 57 should be fine.

no difference between 249 and 250, this is only a "slot position", it all depends on what you install in this spot.
What's important is the cIOS version (hermes, waninkoko), revision and the base you select, not the destination slot.

What's best to choose depends on which partition type you are using.
As you are using NTFS with .wbfs, then don't install a cIOS from waninkoko

When I said to "open" the file, it was in a text editor, like notepad.
see the content of the file, do not just rename the filename.
the content has change, you need to modify 2 things inside the old file to match the new format.
I opened it with notpad then copied the content

but add them 1 by 1 is tiring

I pass this and do it the old fashion way hhhhhhh

as for this QUOTESince I did this my games don't work properly : for Super Smash Brawl for instance it says "Please insert a disc" o

I all ready hack 4.3u wii and used cios21 and worked fin but with my wii it don't ? why still Super Smash Brawl for instance it says "Please insert a disc"
