I just updated to rev640 (through the loader) a nice load of changes, a few things to claify

What happened to my wiitdb.zip?

What does the wireless wii icon do in the homebrew launcher?

Thats about it
This should give you at least one of your ansers http://code.google.com/p/usbloader-gui/source/detail?r=640

Shweet autoupdate, so does this mean that homebrew such as the homebrew browser which initialises network from the lancher can be loaded?
I am sorry but I don't have rev640 yet. And I will not be at home for a few more days. So I thank it would be helpful if they would give an exsample of what the new stuff dose. But I thank if you just try it you could find out and post it for the rest of us. Sorry I could not help.

I think it might have something to do with the db file. in the config folder. that thing is causing so much havoc everywhere. really it's an awesome feature but really, i mean really who is going to stop and take the time to read it when you got 20,40 or in my case 179 games on your usb. come on, do we really need it, yeah maybe for the cynosure in all of us but no we just don't need it, we got covers and 3 different ways to view them the game is right there and if thats not enough, why did you even take the time to put it on your usb if you didn't even know what it was or half of what it was about.

just an opinion and getting more cluttered,
ChokeD

I think the XML info is useful precisely because I have 210 games on my drive. First of all, if I'm with a friend, there's no way I can know which games support multiplayer or not. With the XML file I can find out. Secondly, this opens the door to much more advanced categorization/filtering of your games collection. You could filter on any field in the XML doc: publisher, online play, multiplayer support, genre, etc...
Yeah, I understand, I said it was an awesome feature, but let's say you didn't have the option to use this feature for the sake of it could possibly compromise the speed or stability of said app, lets just say...right. I'll bet you would know or would have a dang good idea of what you and your friend could play together without the db file to reference. I myself have 4 kids and 2 wii's with this installed and I've never, ever needed it to choose what my kids, friends and I are going to play, most of us learn about what the game is fully about 3 months before a game comes out in say a Game Informer or some other mag.

I see your point and respect it, but don't prefer it to the compromise of discussed issues it has presented in past posts.

I am not trying to down on somebodies efforts here, I'm just letting my voice be heard. I know someone has put a lot of effort into it and I respect that. It does serve a purpose for some people and that's all it takes is for 1 person to have a use for it to be worth while. It's just not my perogative and I'm not going to use it cause it causes my system and others to have issues.

Respectfully,
ChokeD

The last I will say on the subject...

As everyone can see from the last 30 pages on this topic, this feature works fine for some and doesn't work at all for others. This is not a result of the coders' negligence in properly writing the code nor is it (always) user error. Everyone has a different system. Different consoles bought at different times hacked different ways... People do things in different orders. I am going to flat out state that 90% of all issues on this board are user error. You can try and dispute that. Good Luck.

To everyone who has GX working properly I say: Congratulations. You are patient and studious and because of that you can enjoy the GX Team's excellent loader.

To everyone who cannot get this loader to work I say: Start from scratch (by scratch I mean a virgin Wii).

I think there is something known as a signal to noise ratio. The signal is what we want. It is useful feedback about our loader. Noise is all the other stuff... " I got a code dump but i can't reproduce it and i don't know what I did", "The loader cussed at me and I have no sense of humor." , "I didn't read the readmii, but I can't figure ___ out", "How to make _____ game work". Noise is also asking a question that you can figure out the answer to all by yourself.

Also, if you get a code dump and you are unwilling to try to figure out what you can do to get it to stop (try another drive, boot with a different method, etc) then it is really hard to fix it. And since I'm lazy and I can't make the issue happen on my Wii, I put it in the "I don't care " pile with all the other noise. If you don't like a feature that we have put in, then don't use it. If you have a good reason that it shouldn't be there, please let us know.

We try to respond to the signal that we get, but when there is too much noise, we just ignore everything.

Good analogy.

But this post is bound to get lost behind 20 pages of stupid/lazy/whining/griping within about twenty minutes.

FEATURE REQUEST: no spinning disc image

it's rather pointless (for me) to have disc art if i can't see it half the time. an option to not make it spin would be very welcome.

ideally for me, the disc would not spin at all, but there would be an animation once the disc is clicked (or A is pressed) to start the game. the disc could then spin while the game loads, or the disc could go into a slot, or a spinning disc could go into a slot.

If your remote is not pointing directly at the disc, it will spin very slow, easy enough to read. It will only spin fast when pointer is directly on the disc.

There, now every time I post you all will get to read an excerpt from giantpune's infinite wisdom

Want better noise?
I get an reliable and reproducable code dump by using the code downloader whithin the GX integrated HBC. When it asks me what region I want to download cheats for, it code dumps. AutoInit Network does not solve the problem.

Wow giantpune, it worked!

Here's another signal to tune into...

When redoing my individual game settings, I get a code dump when doing more than one at a time. Upon multiple adjustments for test purposes I've found that Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is giving me the problems. If I adjust another game's altdol before it, I get a code dump. If I go directly to it upon boot and adjust it, everything is fine. It is the only altdol game I have that does not have an auto-select dol option so it's likely that the error is occuring when accessing the disc image.

i think you forgot to read the part where i said "no spinning"

and the spin only slows down if you wait for awhile. that's a waste of time.

one would infer that my "(or when A is pressed)" means that i know full well how to navigate the loader without the remote pointed at the screen. but this is gbatemp, where explicitly stated items get misunderstood and borked daily, and inferences might as well not have been posted to begin with.

Ok I've been looking thru the pages here
It was mentioned a few pages back.

QUOTE(squablo @ Jul 23 2009, 02:05 PM) I tried looking everywhere on my SD card for 'the file', and it is nowhere.

Or, am I just a retard?

If you have it which you say you do its in the sd:/config/ directory

Ok check out my post again. As you can see, it clearly states that the file is not located anywhere on my SD card. With that being said, you are acting like I have not read anything on this forum, which also is not true. In fact, besides a few days here and there, I've been following this thread since it started.

The loader is not downloading any info file. Period. The file is nowhere. In my original post, I mention all the things I've tried to get it to work, and it doesnt. I simply asked what I was doing wrong, and not for some smart ass comment. I mean seriously, If you took the time to respond, why wouldnt you just answer my question?

When I press the 2 button, nothing shows up besides a message at the bottom of the box that says something like 'dont complain to the GX team about this feature' There is no other info in the box. Thats it.

If anyone out there does know the problem, and feels like being helpful, I would appreciate it.

If you had been following this thread from day 1 then you would have read in the last 10 pages all about Wiitdb, where its located, how it works, its limitations and problems.

Help us help you.

From reading other answers to your posts, next time tell us what version you are running as it wasn't even supported on the version you had installed.

Or you can just turn on quick boot which will just bypass the disc feature altogether; that is after you preconfigure all your games as you won't have that option anymore. While having disc art is nice to have it certainly doesn't add anything (with covers available) and can certainly be something scrapped in the long run if some other useful feature is introduced and the Wii is short on memory. Besides, most of the disc art look crappy compared to the covers.

hmm, yeah.

I like the idea of the disc being stopped until clicked upon.

this is becoming one big circle jerk eh.

i like the spinning disc.. it's "cool". an option not to spin for the easily confused would be alright (but honestly, if you can't cope with that how are you playing wii games?

.

the only issues i have with this loader relate to the update functions
(failed cover downloads -> bad files -> games break)
(loader updates usually just fail after taking ages).

game loading is totally fine (i only have 15 games..).

as long as every game loads every time, nothing else really matters
smile.gif

(i'm fine with manual updates and cover downloads anyway)

can't really think how you could improve this.. keep working on game compat 'cos having just one game that doesn't work would be a bummer.

I read the readmii and couldn't find anything on this,

does the loader retain preconfigured settings if you enable quickboot ??

i have dead rising on my hardrive but its not downloading the disc and box art. i think it said the site was down? cant remember rite now but it could hav also said not found ahha. wat is the site that it downloads it from?
