The Homebrew Channel will load whatever's on the SD card first. If that's "nothing" - as in, nothing is loaded on the SD card - you will get an EMPTY homebrew channel list. If you do not have an SD card in the Wii and load the homebrew channel, it will look for apps on a USB device. Again, if that's "nothin" you will have an empty list, but if you have stuff in the /apps/ folder properly you'll get a list of apps to run from the USB hard drive.

Now, some homebrew does not run off of a USB hard drive. The Homebrew Browser is a prime example of this, so any homebrew needs to be manually installed on the USB drive (at least, it was that way for me). USB Loader GX will load off of the USB drive just fine though.

The Official Forwarder for USB Loader GX will look for the application in the SD card first, and if it doesn't find the /apps/usbloader_gx/ folder (or whatever) it will search for it on the USB drive. This means that you can have an SD card inserted but the forwarder will still load it from the USB drive if you don't have it installed on the SD card. In my situation I have all of my homebrew on the SD card, but I have the USB Loader GX installed on the USB drive. So the Homebrew Channel doesn't see USB Loader GX, but all of the rest of my homebrew works, and the forwarder loads it off of the USB drive regardless if there's an SD card inserted.

Make sense?

Thanx for your explanation...
Oke this is really wierd. I have copied my entire apps dir on the sd card to my USB drive. When I run HBC nothing is listed.
But USBLoader GX through the forwarder is running just fine... with images, cheats and so on...

Do I need to tell HBC I have a USB drive? Do I need another version?

Thanks in advance !

No one a clue?

You will need the latest version of HBC, and there has to be no sd card insterted.

Oke, HBC will update itself right, so I should have the latest version... strang

I would like to run HB on USB instead of SD

Some of the more recent builds I sometimes get DSI Exception errors so I do compile my own at times. The problem I'm having is the revision of the build doesn't show up in the credits. I use devkitpro under Win32 environment. Is there some trick I'm missing?

Also I noticed that Japanese games doesn't seen to download for 3D covers even though they are available. If you choose flat covers they download fine.

For revs to show up you need to install svn, google it.

Is it possible to get Forwarder that starts a game directly from the system menu? And uses USB Loader GX in this process, such that playcount is updated and special settings (alt-dol, etc) are respected?

Nope. Because that wouldn't be USB loader GX then would it? However you are making your channels just copy the apploader from this source and use it when you are compiling your channels. If you don't know how to compile your channels, don't ask here because again, it isn't usb loader gx.

edit............

and to those of you making full channel wads and posting them, please edit the dol and take out the the update stuff before you do. There have been way to many noobs in the irc asking about how to update a full channel.

I do have TurtoiseSVN installed which is a GUI SVN client. That's how I update the source. Are you saying it will only work with a CLI SVN program?

i dont think u guys are understanding my question:

i used to run via SD all working using the forwarder

i then xferred the folders onto a USB partition on my HDD, 2ndline partition is WBFS with games on

changed the config file and replaced all the SD paths with USB

removed the SD

used the forwarder, the app launches so the forwarder is finding the app

however, no images etc, can't save any setting, keeps asking to insert an SD card

when i access the customer paths the paths all start with SD/....

now then,

if i launch the app using HBC without the SD card in, the app runs fine with all images, the custom paths starting with USB //... and i can seave the settings.

does this make it clearer?

You need subversion if you want rev to show in credits.

I have been running from USB until rev r568. Trying r581,r583,r584 cause I like the idea of WiiTDB, but these dols seem to load the config ALWAYS from SD. (I know cause I fiddled in the file and recognize the differences from the SD version of the config). Thought I change all SD to USB and it is reflected in the settings screens. It even save images I download to the USB folders. Settings on the other hand ALL are saved to the SD...

Is this behaviour that is expected? Thought we wanted to get rid of the SD card if possible? Now it still is a precondition to read settings from!

Thanks for your replies.

Hi, im getting code dumps on every game i load now. I updated this morning to the latest build.
Im not sure which of the numbers on the screen is the code dump address but i think it might be 80aae378

the other USB loader works fine and this one did before i updated it.

edit: Oh yeh wii version 4.0, with bootmii on the boot2, bannerbombed.

I fixed it, i downgraded to an earlier version. But i did get a codedump when downloading covers. How odd.

r583 Latest Version

Clicking on favourite ( STAR SHAPE ) ...when none are set give code dump...and freeze

resets to default state ie...my covers path was returned to original state

great work.... STILL !!

I cannot reproduce this at all. using this test dol http://www.mediafire.com/?mrddyzzyzzn. It just tells you at startup where it gets the config from. tested sd&usb both HBC and with the forwarder. all 4 tests it showed that it got the config from where it was loaded from. if you are going to test this dol out, just use it for this testing this out cause there is some unfinished stuff in it that runs a small(but real) chance of bricking if you go clicking around on the buttons and stuff.

if this dol shows anything different than what it should, i dont know what to tell you. it works fine for everyone that tested it. put your wii in the dishwasher and then the drier on med heat for 47minutes and it should fix it.

Why is it when i use the forwarder, It loads the previous version? when i clearly update through the loader to Rev 583, or does a new forwader need to be made for each revison?

Now that there's a cheat manager and so on. Is there a way to download the cheats or do I have to add them manually from pc?
