Hello! I had previously been using a 450gb hdd with Wbfs files for loading wii backups and isos for loading gc games through USB Loader GX. The drive was starting to get old so I have switched to a new hdd, specifically this one:
WD 1TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN.

I took the contents of my previous hdd and copied them onto the new hdd. Upon trying to boot up a wii game with USB Loader GX, it works. Upon trying to boot a gamecube game, it tells me that I need to set the file path to the primary folder on USB drive 1, or some such message. I fooled around with the custom paths, and have not found a way to fix it. However, booting the gamecube games up with Nintendont still works exactly as it should.

The HDD has been formatted as FAT 32 with a 32kb cluster size. As far as I can tell, there should not be any difference. I cannot find a hidden partition using computer management. However, the HDD is advertised as 1tb and the computer shows it as 931.41gb. This leads me to believe there might be one. I am under the impression that there may be a discrepancy in advertising due to the way humans measure hdd size vs the way computers do, but I still am not sure.

The size difference is about right. They advertise drives as their unformatted capacity and the filesystem takes up a bit of space.

Is it possible the drive is GPT rather than MBR? Maybe the drive is plugged into the wrong port or the path to Nintendont is set wrong in USB Loader GX?

I'm not familiar with the terms GPT or MBR, but if you help me understand I'd love to check. I am positive the drive is in the right port, and I would think that it should still be the correct path as I did not change any settings in USB Loader GX until after it had stopped working with the GC games. I have it set to look for GC games in the games folder of the root directory. I basically just copied everything from the past HDD which was working fine to the new one with no changes.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Actually, I think it is GPT. Still not sure what it means, but using command prompt I used "list disk" and it shows the hdd with an asterisk, which apparently means that it's GPT.

Here is what the command prompt says :

(Disk ###) Disk 2 - (Status) Online - (Size) 931 GB - (Free) 0 B - (GPT) *

Update:
I did some searching online and figured out how to convert it to MBR just to see what would happen and then I tested it with one of the GC games. It worked perfectly. Thank you for leading me to this conclusion, I really appreciate it! I know it wasn't a big deal but I appreciate being able to use USB Loader GX to have everything in one place with cover art.

You may actually have an older revision of USB Loader GX. I think Cyan added GPT support some time last year. If MBR works it's better to stick with it though as only some homebrew has GPT added.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
