When trying to run USB Loader GX, it freezes on reinitializing devices (in the vWii section).

I am using an HDD with a y cable plugged into the back that has already been formatted to fat32. The unusual thing is, is that it used to be working fine! I was able to play my games and it would load in with no issue, but after having to turn off the WIIU to play another game, it froze on reinitializing devices when I loaded it up again and I couldn't get it to work again.

I ran sys checker, and it originally froze on IOS249, to which I then reinstalled my cIOSes, then the syschecker worked. Despite this, I am still unable to get through reinitializing devices. However, at one point my syschecker froze again at the same IOS249 on another check I did again after reinstalling my cIOSes, so I wonder if something is messing up 249 specifically?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had this issue recently, I connected the HDD to the computer to scan and fix any errors, then I removed the Y cable from the console and connected it again and it worked.

Sometimes a bad theme will hang usbloader gx

I think you have to delete the ini file, it's been a while since I had to do that, so I'm not sure exactly

This happened to me so I just reinstalled the ios-es.
I did so too, but still couldn't get past it unfortunately...

^^ This is what I've been doing! Currently struggling with checking my HDD on my computer because it won't show up. Have tried nearly everything to try and get the pc to recognize it, so I'm a bit stuck now :( device manager recognizes it, but it won't show up anywhere else. I just wonder what got it in this funk in the first place. Just attempting to get the HDD back in order and hope it will work.

I am unsure what this means, like, a wiiu theme? I don't have any so I think that covers that!

thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions :D

Do you use another HDD (for WIIU stuff) at the same time? I have this issue but only if i have both HDD's plugged in when loading usbloader GX. I need to unplug my WIIU HDD, then usbloader GX works fine with my vWII HDD.. I am guessing the reason you cant get the vWII drive to show up on your PC is because of ustealth?

If you use ustealth, you will need to "unhide" the drive on windows before it will show up in windows.

Try hiding and unhiding the HDD using ustealth on your computer.

Usbloader GX has themes that you can install, if you don't have a theme installed on usbloader gx, then disregard this, but if you do have a theme installed on usbloader gx, and it is not made correctly, it can prevent usbloader gx from starting, it hangs at the startup screen.

Nope! So that's cleared.

Try hiding and unhiding the HDD using ustealth on your computer.
This was my first go, but the drive doesn't even show up in ustealth anymore. To help in File Explorer I checked view hidden items, but still won't show. :(

Yup, no themes installed. Thank you for the advice though I'll keep that in mind if I ever do!

see if it shows up in a hex editor or try disk management to see if's in there.

Your HDD is attached to the FRONT or the BACK USB Ports (Y-Cable) please ?
The Front Ports can make Issues (from personal Experiences).

Try to change the Loader´s IOS to 58 (in the Settings -> Loaders Settings - Loader´s IOS) - please see if it works and change it back to 249 please.Maybe some USBLoader GX Settings are "mixed up".
Deleting (please back it up before you do it) the "GXGlobal.cfg" in SD Card:\apps\usbloader_gx
maybe can help.

Maybe the Controller from your HDD Case can be "confused"....
Or the HDD itself has an "Sleep Mode" like some WD HDDs.
After a Reset or hard Shutdown it can happen, that the HDD is not correct responding.
SSD´s (Samsong QVO 870 for Example) are known for suddenly they "forget" how they work.
You can "reset" them with an Tool for Example.

By the Way,which HDD and Case do you have please ?
(I am sorry,if I had overread it...)

Thank you.:)

How should I back it up? Simply save it before deleting it? After this should I just load usbloadergx on the wiiu?

My HDD is a Maxone usb mobile hard disk. (I am unsure what you mean by case, I apologize!)

That's okay this is a bit of a long thread, I appreciate all your help and advice! :D (and good morning to you as well!)

Very good. With an Y-Cable,as I read it somewhere above.

OK,then your HDD seems ok.
Did you have used the WiiBackup Manager for the Game Transfers ?
Are they still in the Folder "wbfs" in their seperate and correct named Sub Folders ?
Did you have checked please, that Wii Games are "checked" here ?

IMG_20220422_122915.jpg IMG_20220422_122917.jpg

It not, please do this and try Loader IOS 58 again please.😉

How should I back it up? Simply save it before deleting it? After this should I just load usbloadergx on the wiiu?
Please copy this "GXGlobal.cfg" somewhere on your PC or Laptop, then delete it from the SD Card please and Boot the USB Loader.
The USBLoader GX will make it new Config File and "forget" about a maybe previously bad Settings or like that.It is worth a try.😉
How do I do this?
Many HDD / Case Manufacturers like Samsung or WD have such Tool or a newer Firmware in their Downloadsection on their Homepages.I am sorry,I did not find a Maxone Page,so that is no Option I think.

But this is very cool, for the Wii U they recommend an Y - Cable:

Thank you I'll try! I'm unsure what a hex editor is but I'll look into it. I tried disk management and couldn't see it there either.
google HxD. in that, see if the disk is being found. if so, open the disk, and look at the bottom of sector 0. it will say 55 AA if it's unhidden; 55 AB if it's hidden. enable write access (the little checkmark) before opening the disk to change it manually.

I forgot about this post after I gave up and decided to simply install games directly onto my Wii U with Wup Installer instead of using USB loader GX, sorry!

I have yet to try the three suggestions, but I guessed that my HDD got corrupted, as it isn't recognized by disk management or U-stealth (which won't even open if the HDD is plugged in).

Weirdly enough, I remembered that all these problems only existed after playing Sonic Riders. After playing it a bit and turning the WII U off, when I attempted to load up USB Loader GX another time this entire problem started.

Even after when I then gave up on using the HDD entirely and went onto directly installing the games, when I attempted install Sonic Riders, it entirely froze and would not continue to download it. So I chocked it up to that and have since been installing directly with Wup Installer with no problem.

I am still stuck with an HDD I can't access and have no idea how to access or fix, so I am open to suggestions on that end, and will try these suggestions when I get the free time. Thank you everyone for your help!
