Hey!

So here's my issue,

USB Loader GX loads fine and reads the USB. All the games and artwork show up. When I start the game, the game loads fine. I'm then able to play the game! But at some point, typically during a load screen a few minutes into playing, I get the famous black screen. Each game happens at a different spot but always happens at the same spot for each game.

For example, playing Wii Party board game with 4 players, the first round of mini-games works perfectly. All 4 players then can roll. Then at the start of the second round of mini games, I get the black screen and have to reboot the Wii. Never had any issues before using the same USB and game.

I typically play my games off the USB and have had zero issues doing so for the past year. Now I am now running into problems and haven't made any changes that I'm aware of.

I have tried troubleshooting and have now updated everything via ModMii. I'm still getting the same errors. I then tried to use a different USB and still the same errors. I also tried setting the loader back to defaults and still no luck. When trying to use Wii Flow I encounter similar results but the black screen would happen in different places.

I know many people say it could be the USB Drive (PNY 128G USB 3.0 the same one on the compatibility list). I find it strange however that it's been working fine until now and that the games will load and start to play. Before I get the black screen in the middle of playing, everything is working fine. I've now tried 2 different HDD and 2 different USB Drives. All have the same problem. Plays the game until a certain point.

I'm hoping someone out there can help me! I feel like I've tried everything and am going crazy trying to figure out why it stopped working all the sudden.

Thanks for all the help in advance, and please let me know what other info would be helpful!!

It also happen on a flash drive?
at first I thought it could be a HDD sleep timer problem, but it wouldn't affect flashdrives.

the "freeze at loading next level" is a typical sleep timer issue, the drive stop spinning while not accessed for a few seconds and the game doesn't have any USB command to trigger a USB re-spin.
it's usually fixed by using your brand's software and disable or maximize the time until the drive goes to sleep.

cIOS should have an anti-sleep set at 1min, or even 30sec, but maybe it doesn't work.

if it happens on multiple drives, I don't know the cause, sorry.
verify your ISOs on USB are good (wiibackupmanager's sha1 option)
that's all I can think for now. maybe someone else will have more ideas.

Thanks so much for responding Cyan!

I thought it was strange it was happening on multiple drives too. I'll go through all the steps again and triple check the ISOs. I must be missing something!

I'll post back if I stumble across any new discoveries.

P.S- Thanks for all the work and time you put into these forums. You help so many people! It's amazing! I've used these forums over the years and it's usually your answers that help me the most. I didn't think I would be lucky enough to get a response from the famous Cyan! Thanks for being so willing to share all your knowledge! ... and your cooking blog :)

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.

@BakerMan, Any idea what happened? I hope that your brother's doing good.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
What matters now is that he's doing alright.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But you still don't know what it was?
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Has he had seizures before?
