using WBFS format is fine, as long as you know what you are doing.
which is :
1- never use WBFS manager ! (this program is known to corrupt games)
2- instead, use Wii Backup Manager, or Wit/wwt, or its GUI.

3- Know that you can convert the partition to FAT32 without losing a game, if one day you decide to do it.
4- if the partition or a game are corrupted, wwt could help you.

5- many users will persuade you that WBFS is dead and FAT32 is better. (I could be one of them, depends my mood :P), just know that you have the choice. Both are working.
of course FAT32 is better for other homebrew compatibility. You can partition your drive if you want (first as FAT32, second half as WBFS)

6- I didn't watch your videos, but remember that we don't like youtube tutorial for many reasons. Old, wrong, never updated (of course, you can't update the video, while a written guide is easily updated). be careful following old and outdated tutorials.

that's fine to keep them here, it won't prevent users following them directly on youtube :P
as long as you are careful with video guide and check the date, and read updated website too, that's fine.

I used to have that on a few wii games i had kept a fresh backup of my nand and a packed emunand i found that when i switched over from the packed emunand to my fresh backup for the emunand all slow loading and menu lag seems to fix itself is there an optimal size for a emunand for usbgx and other back up loaders and if so would it be better to have multiple emunands with certain function IE one for VC and one for Wiiware? The emunands were stored on a SD card could get them to run off my usb 1tb hdd(western digital my passport ultra) part 1 300GB in fat32 and part 2 600GB in NTFS.

Hello all. I am currently having some trouble loading my Wii and Gamecube games with USB Loader GX. I have a 1TB hard drive (formatted to fat32 with 32kb clusters). File paths are as follows, USB1:\games (for gc games) and USB1:\ wbfs (for wii games). I have 5 cIOS installed... hermes cios 222 base 38, hermes cios 223 base 37, hermes cios 224 base 57, d2x-v10-beta53-alt base 56 in slot 249, and d2x-v10-beta53-alt base 57 in slot 250 (all are revision 65535). Ive been using IOS224 for quite some time because of its port1 support. Up until now, I had only wii games on a wbfs-format hard drive. Now, i have both gamecube and wii games on the hard drive i described above. My problem is this... gamecube games load fine, but wii games force restart my wii when i attempt to load them. I have gx set to load from both ports, multiple partitions on, and mount usb at launch on. GX easily detects and lists both wii and gc games, but can only load gamecube games. I would like to keep all my games on my fat32 drive AND continue loading through port1. Can anybody help me, please?

UPDATE:

I partitioned my hardrive so one half is fat32 and the other is WBFS. Im not sure why this worked, but it fixed my loading issue.

Which cIOS version and base are you using to play games?

Go to the settings > credit, look at the top right. (this cIOS in the one used by the loader, not the games)
Then check Settings > Loader settings > Game IOS.

By default, the cIOs used by loaders is slot 249.
In that slot, you should have d2x cIOS v10 (beta52 or 53) with base 56.
if it's not the case, try to reinstall d2x cIOS, or try another slot in the settings.

Ok so when i tried to go look at the credits..the only thing that happened is music started playing...it didnt show anything at all and it froze the screen as it played music

The only thing I see wrong is that you have d2x-v10-beta53 installed. It may not be causing whatever issue you're having but it's not recommended. It has compatibility problems with some game titles and some storage devices.

The Complete Softmod Guide says to install it but it's wrong and I have no idea who created the guide to ask them to update it.

Should I try running these off the hard drive instead? Or should I change from that beta 53? Everything seems to work fine up to the title screen and music but once I press start it just goes black

Hey guys I'm having the same issue, frozen black screen when I try to play Wii games using usb loader gx, requiring restart. I'm using a Sandisk Cruzer Glide 32gb stick formatted FAT32. Installed games no problem using Wii Backup Manager, and the ISO's worked just fine using the Dolphin emulator.

Here's my syscheck:

You could try replacing 249 with v10-beta52. There's no advantage to using beta53 unless you need to use the second USB port for some reason. It could be a partitioning or compatibility issue with the flash drive, too.

I'm having the same issue with loading games through usb loader gx, I followed all the steps properly and have done so twice now for two different Wii systems. The only difference is that for the first system I used a 64Gb SDXC Card for the programs (Cios and UsbLoadergx) as well as the games, now since I couldn't load the games from just the sd card I use a usb sd card reader that I plug into the back of the console and this set up works just fine on both consoles, however when I use the second systems set up which includes a standard 512Mb SD card for the programs and a SanDisk Cruzer Blade 32Gb thumbdrive for the games each time I attempt to load the games they go into a black screen which turns off my wii remote. For testing purposes I've tried using a different usb device which is a Kingston Datatraveler 102 8Gb thumbdrive loaded up with one game that being New Super Mario Bro's Wii and it works fine in comparison to the SanDisk thumbdrive. This is quite a frustrating experience trying to resolve this issue. Is there anything you guys can recommend that will fix this issue? I'm wary of just going out and buying other thumbdrives seeing as I could run into this issue again and would have wasted my time and money.

flashdrive have issues and are rarely compatible with Wii and wiiU.
Even nintendo is telling users to not use them (even if probably for another reason than putting pirated games on it)

I see, I've only tried two thumbdrives, one being the SanDisk and another being a Kingston. The Kingston worked fine but the SanDisk did not. Would you say it's just better to you an external harddrive and forgo the use of the thumbdrives all together? If so is there a list of compatible externals on the forum you can link me to that have little to no signs of not working?

there is a wiki but I don't know how good or messy it is. it's old, and I didn't check it for a long time.
https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

I recommend external hard drive over flashdrive/flashstick.
And, even if USB3.0 is working, new drives seems to have some initialization issue with USBLoaderGX.
old one (mainly USB2.0) are fine, if you go with USB3.0 you'll have to set the loader to use IOS58 by default instead of IOS249

What if most games work but some don't?
I've got a PAL Wii and most NTSC games run without hen I just change the settings to one of the forced PAL options (Video mode). Often times, not even that is needed.
However, some games remain black (and no sound, and Wiimote disconnects) nonetheless (even though the intro animation in GX loader is shown correctly).

First, check to see if the ISO is good or bad (wii backup manager > sha1 option)

then, things you can try :
- use component (not composite/RCA video cable)
- when you try "force NTSC 480p", also enable "patch video dol" option and select full (or something which tell that every video modes will be patched).
- for NTSC J games, you might need to enable "patch import" or "patch region" (forgot the name).
some games might just not work if not the correct region, but there's and complicated another solution : use neek(2o) with a NTSC NAND.

You can try another loader (to see if the issue is one of your loader's settings)
you can try another cIOS version/base (best one is still d2x v8 base57)

if you have PAL wii .... DO NOT FORCE PAL !
that's your issue.

You need to use the region the game is designed for.
if you launch a NTSC game, and tell the console to use PAL signal, then of course it ends in black screen.

the best setting is "Disc" (to use the same region than the launched game)
