Hello,

Your CIOS 250 is on the wrong base, reinstall only the CIOS 250 on base 56.

Convert a wbfs external hard drive to FAT 32, follow this tutorial (wbfs2fat),without losing the data on it ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/wbfs2fat-py.291320/

Launch usb loader gx by HBC, and result?

Just a tip:

Prefer an external hard drive with a single partition (FAT32).

but you can have several partitions (1 fat32 partition, 2nd partition whatever you want).

Hey,

Newbie here who had been trying to get his old wii up and running again after soft modding a long time ago.

I followed the ModMii update guide (cant post link because noobie) which went smoothly, and I even loaded an old backup. I cleared down the hard drive and I was having the same issues with getting a blackscreen which was frustrating as I had it working!

I found my issue though, 10 or so years ago when the wii scene was more active master boot record was a thing on hard drives (i've used mac for those 10 years but remembered it on windows XP from a while ago)

I ended up clearing all blocks / partitions using the windows 10 gui then using diskpart from cmd prompt to convert the drive to MBR (master boot record)

After this I partitioned 30gb / 300gb. Went into wii backup manager and did the smaller 30gb partition as fat32 & the larger partition as wbfs

I'm still yet to try keeping the larger partition as ntfs but its working so I don't want to touch it now

Then i additionally used an usb stick on wbfs some games work now which didnt but still its quite bad.
I plan the conversion to fat32 on the Lacie but little afraid i screw up anything (it is 10 years old or something).
Formatted the usb stick to FAT32 but wbfs manager wont let me install games on that partition should i use another managere on PC for that? Greetz Ralph

Greetz Ralph [/ DEVIS]

syscheck report ==> PERFECT

I recommend a fat32 external hard drive recommend) and use "" wii backup manager "" to manage your games.

Avoid USB keys, often black screen or does not work. with some USB keys, you can try all possible formats, and they will never start (we will never repeat it enough on the forum).

Okay I used another external drive and formatted it to WBFS. Then USB loader GX sees the games but again they wont load. I formatted the drive to fat 32 clusters 32 and put the iso files on it with wii backup manager. The program puts games in its names folders on the root in wbfs format. Then when I launch any usb loader in homebrew it wont see the disk. What more can I do?

Hello,

connect the external hard drive to port 0 ==>
vro1.jpg

You can try to change the charger IOS (USB gx) put 249:
USBLoader GX - Parameters - Global parameters - Parameters of the charger - IOS 58 of the charger -> 249 and result?

I already use these settings...
Hello,

I know that some hard drives, like the brand "Lacie" have problems with wii, have trouble connecting or does not work. I could not tell you what kind of Lacie does not work with wii.

if you can test another external hard drive to see (Western Digital works well with wii in general).

Hi all. Been battling the black screen issue for a bit and finally (reluctantly) formatted my USB to wfbs and it is now working flawlessly. I didn't want to do it as I wanted to same all my games (GCN, N64, Wii) on the USB but looks like that just isn't meant to be for me. No biggie, just glad to have my Wii games working. Anyway, wanted to share what worked for me.

Hi, this seems as good a place to start as any as its similar problems and fairly up to date.

Back in March 2020 I installed USB Loader GX using the “2019 Wii Softmod Guide - Play Games From HDD – P3NCE" method as found on YouTube.

It's been generally fine but occasionally the music would start to loop on a game and at the next cut scene it would go to black screen and freeze with the only way out being to cut the power. Added to that USB Loader GX would very occasionally deselect Wii games under the “Select Titles Sources” but re-selecting the tick box would cure the problem for a month or so.

Me and my boy have been hammering it through games on Covid lockdown and are now on Lego Batman 2: DC superheroes. This game is VERY unstable and regularly goes black at cut scenes, sometimes not even loading our saved game. This week USB Loader GX will not display the games from start and we have to go into “Select Titles Sources” & check the Wii Games tick box every single time.

DISCLAMER... I’m running the games off a Fat32 formatted 32GB MicroSD in a USB adaptor in the back bottom USB slot. As I said, it's been running generally fine despite many forum posts suggesting it won't work. This evening I have also tried another MicroSD but this time formatted through Wii Backup Manager (64 bit) to WFBS. All the game files loaded but many had no cover artwork & would not download through USB Loader GX even though they had done on the original MicroSD. Finally, I pulled out an old hard drive in a USB caddy, formatted it to Fat32 and tried that. I must have tried it about 5 times like this, only once did it load the choose game menu and that was after a very long wait, as with the second MicroSD, much of the game artwork was missing & would not download but the other 4 times it wouldn’t load and USB Loader GX froze to the point of having to pull the power.

I’ve put the original MicroSD back in and artwork is fine & games load fine (not played one till it dies yet) but we’re still having to go int the “Select Titles Sources” to select Wii Games.

If anyone could give me pointers on how I can get the thing running more stable, I’ll owe you my sanity as there are only so many times I can be asked “is the Wii working yet dad?” before my head will explode.

Hello,

your CIOS 249 is badly installed, follow this guide to reinstall it ==>https://wii.guide/cios

Get an external hard drive in FAT 32 and use "" wii backup manager "" to manage your games. (External hard drive which works well with wii in general ==> Western Digital.

Maybe you will need a Y cable with the hard drive for a better connection with the wii.

USB keys in general do not work well with Wii (black screen or does not start).:hateit:

Try the version of usb loader gx 1271 ==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

Try Configurable loader v70 ==>https://wiidatabase.de/downloads/usb-und-disk-loader/configurable-usb-loader-mod/

Can someone help me. I'm not posting much yet because this convo is probably dead

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can someone help me I get black screen on certain games mostly of games over 3gb. It might be my flash drive but I'm not sure until someone tells me. I'll post a sys check when someone tells me to.

Well other people have had the same exact flash drive as me and they said it worked "flawlessly"

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
