This thread confused me, and I don't know if the flow of information is exactly "correct", so here's a brief summary of the status of Gateway and A9LH.

Now, your(OP's) case is rare. You actually know what CFW is and don't want anything to do with it. So then, you can install Gateway's implementation of A9LH, which is relatively safe, but still in kind of a testing phase. People are gonna recommend against this, of course, since everyone hates Gateway.

So your next choice is Plailect's guide for A9LH. It has gotten a fresh coat of paint, and is relatively safe and easy to do. What I've done is
-installed A9LH using the guide
-kept my emuNAND
-and used this - https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/ -
to dual boot Luma and Gateway.

If you don't want Luma, you can just use the arm9loaderhax.bin provided by the Gateway team, and place it on root of the SD Card.

Assuming you've gotten rid of your emuNAND, you'll unfortunately need Luma, as it's the only way to update your sysNAND.

That's all your options~

People don't advise against Gateways method because they hate Gateway, they advise against it because it is unsafe and causes bricks. Gateway even say themselves that you shouldn't use their method without a hardmod to save your console when it all goes pearshaped.

Yeah, it was unsafe and caused bricks- in the first alpha. It's improved over time, but that isn't known by many here because everyone decides not to bat an eye when it comes to Gateway. Yes, there's stil issues, but it's not so bad that it should be ignored like the plague. Many have used Gateway's tools successfully, and gotten rid of them accordingly.
