Hi folks,

I want to bring my 3DS up to date, but I'm not sure exactly to tell what state it is in currently. I would appreciate some guidance here, as I don't want to do anything stupid.

I initially hacked it a few years ago when RX tools was the most up-do-date method. Then, about a year ago or so I checked in on the scene and updated it to Luma (nice to not have to reboot the console 5 times every time you want to execute unofficial code). With RX I had emunand, but I am reading that this is basically outmoded now.

I know that I followed the 3ds Hacks Guide to update to luma, but what I am not sure about is whether I bothered to migrate from emunand or not. I still have emu- and sys- nand files on my SD card (sd:/Nintendo 3DS/), with txt files reminding me which dump is which, etc. These have been written to recently, i.e. last time I used the console. This suggests to me that I have not updated from the old emunand method, but I would like to hear from someone who knows what they are doing.

I am on Luma 8.1.1 and system menu 11.5.0-38E.

So:

1) Am I still using outdated emunand, and if so do I just follow the 3DS hacks guide to migrate?
2) What's the best way to update Luma?
3) Is updating system menu safe?
4) I still have an RXtools folder on my 3ds of around 19MB - does this need to stay or can I delete it?

Also: what order should I address these 3 issues in?

Thanks much!

Figure out a way to transfer your EmuNAND library onto SysNAND by either:
  1. Transfer the EmuNAND → SysNAND in GodMode9. This will overwrite the current SysNAND.
  2. Backup the saves & exdata with Checkpoint or JKSM, and then dump all the games, DLCs, and updates with GodMode9. Install and restore those EmuNAND titles by merging them with your SysNAND. After that's done, delete the EmuNAND off the SD card. You can get an idea of what to do by reading someone with a similar issue found here.

2) What's the best way to update Luma?
Acquire the Luma3DS v9.1, boot9strap v1.3, and GodMode9 v1.7.1 trifecta on both SD card and CTRNAND.

3) Is updating system menu safe?
Yes. Just make sure you're on Luma3DS v9.1 before updating to 11.8.0-41E, or else you get the "Failed to apply 1 patch(es)" boot error. You fix that by updating Luma.

4) I still have an RXtools folder on my 3ds of around 19MB - does this need to stay or can I delete it?

With Luma3DS, rxTools is a thing of the past. Delete it if you like 19MB of free space.
