Hi, I bought my xbox quite some times (second hand)

As wat i know for my xbox 360 is modded wit XBR n i think is ixtreme 1.3? since i can't play Tekken, normally will stop loading.

Now i would like to update my system,
i bring my xbox for someone to update, but failed.
it make the xbox keep asking update [IMG]

after bring to others, did help me to recover,
but tat doesnt mean update my XBR or firmware to 8955 higher.....

So, i would like to know, how do i update?
I heard that XBR not updated sometimes,
    so my question is

    1) Can my XBR system just update the system to 12626 higher?
    2) I heard that Freeboot is very good, is it good to update to freeboot? then update the system to 12626 higher?

I trust you are familiar with the idea that many xbox tools are built in such a way that straight links tend to be frowned upon but I should provide enough info that a search or two can drum it up. Also I know I am going to drop a lot of information but if you can follow it then you should get it all sorted, feel free to ask for more info on something though.

XBR stopped being updated and freeboot (which at first required dual nand which is why XBR appeared) took over. Freeboot kind of stopped and now we have fbbuild.

If you do not have the original NAND there is a small issue although one easily solved. Dump your NAND however you will (xellous, NANDFlasher360 possibly (it is a better flashing program but I do not know if it can dump the drive) or Flash360 which is older but can dump the NAND).
The issue is that freeboot needs some files that the builder it does not like to extract from XBR nand dumps. There is a program called 360 flash dump tool that can generate the required files from most NAND dumps (I do not expect a problem here).
Run it, click on the keys pulldown menu and add your CPU key (xell/xellous should tell you if you boot into them- press eject to power the system and with the drive out it should boot into it). Press extract down the bottom left of the window, check everything but raw file system and wherever you extract it to should be a bunch of files you want for this. If you have the original NAND you might well be able to skip this step.

Grab a copy of the latest FBbuild or one of the several tools to make it ( FreeBOOT Toolbox 0.04 Maker v2.7c by BestPig being an example).
Follow the NFO/build instructions (you might also need a copy of the 12625 dash) and build yourself a new NAND image with 12625 as a base. I already mentioned a couple of tools you can use to flash it up above (most people do it on the 360).

Next grab a copy of dashlaunch and install that. It is optional but if you are wanting a nice system you want this installed.

The DVD thing is a bit trickier as you are going to have to flash it (I am not sure if 1.3 is one of the nice old ones that has no real issues playing anything, if it is ignore this for now). Fortunately you can extract the DVD keys from the NAND dump (or even xellous if you have that installed) which saves you the hassle of dumping keys (usually the most annoying part of flashing a 360 DVD drive). Use these keys to build a new hacked DVD firmware and flash that, I am not aware of any 360 side flashing programs at this point in time so you are going to have to follow a more conventional guide/tutorial and use the hardware it requires
    http://www.jungleflasher.net/downloads.html
I suggest the hacked firmware 1.6NS for now (JTAG machines do not have trouble with AP2.5 if you install dashlaunch) as LT requires splitvid that might see you reburning some games.

Failing that just install it to the 360 hard drive (extract it and run it with xexmenu or freestyle dash) or install it as a GOD install (iso2god or if you prefer install it with the "install to hard drive" function and then run NXE2GOD and have it convert it).

    wow. so confuse [IMG]

ok, let talk about the 1st part.
Wat u means now i should install either Freeboot or Fbbuild, isnt it?
And u recommend Fbbuild, is it?

so, can i just directly from XBR to FBbuild?
    or i need to XBR 8955 > Freeboot 9xxx > FBbuild 1xxxx ??

If you can build a NAND image for your 360 you can flash to whatever you like from wherever you happen to be at without any intermediate steps.

Fbbuild is only version based on newer dashboard versions which is what you want here (it has the latest patches and it plays the latest games without hassle).

Trouble is it requires files that you can only source from either an original NAND (which it can extract) or if you only have a hacked NAND image you get to use a program like 360 flash dump tool.

Once you have these files you can feed them into the Fbbuild building process (it comes with a basic command line method or you can find a tool to do it) which will spit out a file about 16 megabytes in size (or maybe a bit larger if you have a large NAND on your 360) aka your new NAND image which you then flash with one of several methods (I suggest NANDFlasher360).

Everything else I mentioned it just tips on usage or what else you might be interested to know about if you are setting about making your JTAG 360 be as good as it can be.

So, tis means i no need update to Freeboot, n directly to FBbuild? [IMG]

sry, i still a noob. So many thing dun understand.
As for Nand backup, i think will try. then try to load back n test 1st b4 doing updating to freeboot/fbbuild.

I should probably explain how the hacked dashes work

You can not just boot into a hacked dash from power on so to work around this hackers do a soft reboot into the hacked dash which has no such restrictions (hence the term rebooter). It takes maybe 10 seconds more though so most people do not even know about this.
Your 360 is technically still at a very old dash (or more accurately a minimal version of it) as part of the JTAG hack which gets hooked and rebooted with the hacked dash being the target. This is why you can go to and from anything you can build a hacked dash from.
This hacked dash is located in the NAND memory which is what you need to write to so as to sort it all. The most sensible way of doing it is to make an complete NAND image containing all you need and flash that (for you I suggest NANDFlasher360 - you load up a USB drive with the program and the image, run it like any other piece of homebrew and follow the on screen instructions).

Every 360 NAND is unique or more accurately tied to a given 360. There are general NAND images you can simply mod into working ones for your 360 but you want to avoid them if you can. Ideally to build a new image you want parts that come from your 360 not a general one which is easy enough for an original NAND but hacked ones change a few things which make this fall over for simple tools- the better modders would have sent you an original NAND image (you have to dump it as part of the initial hack) but we can make do with your current hacked image if we have to (this is what 360 flash dump tool is used for in this case).

To update your 360 you need two things

    1) a NAND image from your 360. This you can get with Flash360 if you do not have one.

    2) your 360 CPU key. This you can get from xell or xellous which would have been installed as part of the JTAG hack.
    Xell will look like
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/822/img0003zo.jpg/ (fuse lines 3 and 5 go together to make the CPU key)
Although it does scroll past quite quickly so you normally take a photo and stitch it together afterwards.

    Xellous will look like
    http://imageups.com/files/110/1223091149-00.jpg
With xellous if your 360 is connected to the network you can also dial into your 360 via web browser and download the keys, NAND and whatever else (xellous is great).
Via web browser looks like http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4980/xell...age450xblog.jpg

The NAND image will gain you all the files that make your 360 what it is (thus allowing you to use them to construct a new image with more modern hacks/software) and the key is needed to extract them and build a new image.

If it has not clicked yet I will ask you to explain/detail what you know/think is happening and I will then try and steer you towards the answers.

but it seems all ok? nothing happen....
but when i try using Xellous to load, dunno y it wont load my Nand backup?

And also, i try to connect my netbook wit the Xellous, i follow the https tat show in Xellous,

Backing it up is not usually a problem if you do it in software (flash360). Still dump it a couple of times in a row and if it is the same for each then it is good (easiest way if you are not so familiar with computers is to add them all to a zip file and look at the CRC value which should match).

As for the xellous "website" it is far from the best server out there so avoid using IE as it does not play well with it. Failing that make sure nothing it being blocked by your security settings/script blocking/ad blocking software.

As for the other stuff I have lost you- did you dump it and then try to flash said dump back without changing it (as a check or something)?

That is a very risky way of testing things but I guess it is and that is now the only dump you have so you might was well press on with building an update to flash.

    ya, i know is risky.....

but dunno y Xellous cant load the backup? that y i using the risky way to test wit flash360...
    \

do u know anything about freeBOOT_ToolBox_Maker24r3?
i heard tat tis is the easy way to make freeboot dump.
i try wit my flashdmp.bin wit Freeboot Toolbox Maker24r3.
i put my CPU keys, then it say my CB is 6723,
then it ask something like FREEBOOT directory...i dunno tis is wat...is it asking me to dl the FREEBOOT file?
since i was just testing wit it, then it successful create a Freeboot dump (without Freeboot file??).
But of coz i didnt test wit it.
    Does it really ok??

The easier way would be to have dumped a few files and compared them- errors tend to be random (else they are bad sectors but that is a different matter) and if two dumps appear the same.....

Afraid I tend to steer clear of the GUI programs.
    Generally you want
The dashboard files for the new updating you are moving to. Most freeboot downloads will have these sitting alongside them.
The files from your 360 (your NAND dump provides this usually but basic programs have issues extracting them from hacked NANDs hence my pointing you at 360 flash dump tool which can extract them).
The 360 CPU key (also 1br but that is the same for all 360s)

The GUI programs tend to just be a nice way to avoid the command line so with them you might (some programs come bundled- especially if they are up around the 50 meg mark) still need the main freeboot building tools. To this end I would not your old files.

I got bored so picture guide.

Freeboot toolbox maker does not seem to have been updated for the newest freeboot so if you must use a GUI you have two main options
    Easy Freeboot v5.20
    JTAG tool v3.13
A couple of people have batch files that do much the same

    First though the simple way

    The directory at the start
    [IMG]

360 flash dump tool as you first open it.

Press Settings and then options. The main one you want selected is "extract ibuild compatible files".

Press Settings and then keys. Add your keys in the appropriate box
    [IMG]

You could have opened the dump before but there was not a lot you could have done with it. Still do so and it should look like this.

Press extract and make sure the following are checks (you can add raw file system but it would be wasted space
    [IMG]

The rest is you standard choose a directory but the main thing you want from those is
    [IMG]

Those files are what basic fbbuild sometimes struggles to extract/generate from hacked dumps (why earlier versions called for the original NAND dump). You might be able to dodge this but have them anyway and do use them if you have them.

With those, the 13146 files, fbbuild and the keys you have all you need to build a new hacked dash so getting to that.
Two main ways of doing this these days (not counting GUI stuff)
    1) A massive command line with everything needed. Also some copy and pasting.
    2) Fill out the directories and text documents with the required files, keys and then launch a fairly simple command line.

Before that though I should at least copy the usage.

    usage

Extract the zip file you should have found with all the 13146 files in it into the 13146 directory. Copy the files 360 flash dump tool to mydata. In mydata open cpukey.txt and replace the key with your own, in the FbBuild directory open 1blkey.txt and replace the key with the real 1bl key (you should be able to find it simply enough).

    fbBuild.exe -f 13146 -c xenon -d mydata

Replace xenon with whatever your console is (360 flash dump tool will tell you if you)

The hard(er) way. Copy the files as before but if you prefer not to edit the text files

    fbBuild.exe -f 13146 -c xenon -d mydata -b 1blkey -p cpukey

Replace xenon with whatever your console is, 1blkey with the 1blkey and cpukey with your CPU key.

If you want a bit more info about what is going on stick -v in the command line, 1bl key is checked so no worries about entering the wrong one.

Either of these should spit out a file called something like 13146fb_zephyr.bin

If you want fire it back through 360 flash dump but otherwise you seem to be no stranger to flashing a NAND image. Still for the others reading this grab a copy of NANDFlasher360.

As for the GUI programs I did not have the patience to get Easy Freeboot working (I found and old XBR vintage dump to test it and it fell short)

JTAG tool appeared to make a good dump after a bit of coaxing. Run the installer and then the program. You can fiddle with the Drivers/Options tab if you want (dash version and Freeboot eject mainly)

Enter a CPU key at the left hand side of the program and click create FB. It will ask you for a NAND dump and then it will more or less go from there until it asks you to find a place to save the new file. It might have an error at some point (freeboot failing to extract a file- remember the hassle with 360 Flash dump tool. This is why we did that) but in my test it came through none the less (or at least it looks good in 360 flash dump tool).

hmmm~~ i really not good for tis....

How about i use Freeboot Toolbox Maker to update my XBR 8955 to FBT9199 1st?
then only the latest version depends on i want to update or not? wasn't tis better??

As for the software u teach me now 360 flash dump tools,
so, i can use tis software to extract my original nand from XBR nand, isnt it?

It will get far easier as things drag on- ask anybody that flashed a DVD drive how their first few times went and how it goes now as the same applies here really and you have about the most awkward starting point there is.

Your original NAND is gone forever (lest you email the person that hacked it and get them to send a copy) but you can still pull the necessary data for making updates from a good dump (you can probably pull it from some bad ones as well but let us not get into that) and 360 flash dump tool is the program to do it (which yes I detailed up above as well as the steps to make yourself a new hacked image, albeit it slightly less detail).

You could do as you say but Freeboot Toolbox Maker is out of date and I am not sure it will function for what you have there (trying to use an XBR nand is doable but can be out of reach of automated tools). If you must use a GUI tool then JTAG tool should do it- of the three automated methods I had in front of me that was the only one to pull it off with an XBR era dash.

9199 is a thing of the past. We have many games already using the next dash, the one after that and games using the one after that are due any day now. Of course there are methods to dodge this (dashlaunch has the ability to remove version checks) but there is little need to employ them when you can be at the latest dash.

Edit, I made this reply before I did my news rounds for the day. A new freeboot toolbox has appeared. "FreeBOOT Toolbox 0.04 Maker v2.7.1a by BestPig" which apparently supports 13146 although I have idea if it is suitable for use with an XBR dump.

But if i update to 13146, i need to re-flash my DVD drive.

i now may think to use Freeboot toolbox maker 2.4 rev3 1st.
to make it to 9199 freeboot.

but is just tat....i afraid of bricked ==

I am not sure you do need to update the DVD drive- people still used normal LT for a while before that got updated for it. Naturally XDG3 will not happen but those can probably just be extracted as and when they appear. Also as you are magically appearing at the new dash rather than actually updating it should not reflash it.
Likewise if it does turn out that you do need to update you can always fall back to a pre update dash and sit there until you can get the gear together to flash the DVD drive.

I tend to ignore avatar data (second only to achievements in the pointless gimmick stakes) so I will have to bow out here and I am not sure what is safe.

    By the way it went
    2.0.9199.0
    2.0.12611.0
    2.0.12625.0
2.0.13146.0 (this is the current one and one that brought the DVD updates).

Although there is not much reason to be at the last one the one before it at least does have games out requiring it (although you can dodge this with dashlaunch and co) and a fair few patches out to do nice things (controller remapping, no need to patch XBLA, system link ping patch....) that you might have troubled on with 9199.

or nothing will happen? still can read backup disc, just not AP2.5 n XGD3?
