Well, i know about the topics speaking about the web exploit being tested etc... I created this topic to discuss this especific question and help me and others to decide what is the best thing to do.

You have the option of buy a Mario Kart 8 who includes the offline 4.1.0 update and this is a sweet solution, but any other game have a offline 5.0.0 update? This is the mess, because if nintendo launch a new update closing the exploit and the future homebrew need the 5.0.0 we will be stuck in a old firmeware.
Otherwise, if we update to 5.0.0 now, maybe the 4.1.0 become the only choice to homebrew and we dont will can downgrade until a solution be figured.
Nintendo can also include a fixed new offline update with future games, then the time for choose is now.

What you think about it? Someone have any information to decide this question?

Are you a developer/interested in coding? Stay on 4.1

If you're just waiting for homebrew/loaders, just update to v5. By the time anything useful is available, we'll be long past 5.0.

Then, for sure the 5.0.0 is the best option? I will not lose anything? Are you fully right about it?

Yes, that's your best bet if you're wanting to get a free game or download anything. 5.0.0 is too new to be on any discs.

That exploit wasn't actually fixed in 5.0. The reason it doesn't work there is because it relies on memory blocks that got switched around, so it can be remade. Though I'm not sure how hard it'll be or if anyone is going to bother.

So as said: if you're a developer, stay on 4.1 and see what sort of code you can get to run on that exploit. For anyone else, it doesn't matter much yet (it's not like a wiiu homebrew channel is around the corner...let alone actual homebrew).

While the safe side is 4.1, I can't say I regret upgrading (heard about the exploit later). That quickstart option is a very good addition. And I'm not sure if the eshop requires 5.0, but with brain training being free there it is worth getting (note: that may still be Europe only).
Still...with the exploit being out in the open, you really want to avoid further upgrades. Anything past 5.0.0 will no doubt properly fix this exploit.

Just a heads up, the quick menu does require standby to be enabled, which means you leave the console open for updates without knowing about it, so if you want to prevent that, best to leave said feature off.

I think my chances are better with 4.1 because is more open. If a 5.0 come with some game i have the option to update (Is a big IF). Maybe they can make new games run with a 4.1 later (another great IF). And maybe they take much time to unlock 5.0 properly, or can't. I definitely doubt if will can downgrade. Then it is my option while I´m waiting for more information.

do you realize in standby mode your wiiu is practically still on that's why it loads quicker in quick boot. and if it's still on it's still using more power etc. dunno bout you but i don't like leaving my consoles on all time :P

Developer or not i'd stay on 4.1 and sit it out for a good while and let nature take it's course regardless, if and when it gets ported to 5.0 firmware.

There are too many users with no proper common sense and patience these days, jumping the gun to early with anything like this across all gaming platforms that are exploitable. If online or original software is a problem and money permits, get another console and use that.

Only update the exploitable version once its safe to do and worth while.

It's too late for many people, we were told it was safe and there's no reason why we should be paranoid; as such so many of us already did, but I personally will make sure not to update again. I trust what both Crediar and Marionumber1 have said, that the exploit will be ported over to 5.0.0. Even so, the exploit that was released is of no use to the majority of Wii U users anyway. 5.0.0 is perfectly safe, and I'll take their words over anyone who tries to state otherwise, as such, I'm already on it, many are so far, we have to block the Nintendo server IP addresses.

I could understand that it may be too late for others, yet I'm still on 4.1 and have no reason to update to 5.0, as it only has some extra features. I'll only update to 5.0, once the web exploit is ported to across and there is a proper reason to use it. I just think users on 4.1 now should stay on it and ignore people saying just don't update after 5.0, yet each to their own if they wish to do so.

The only reason anyone would update to 5.0 is to get the free game that comes with MK8 or use the quick boot feature.

No reason to speculate any further than that. If you want your free game, get to v5. Otherwise, just hang around for awhile and enjoy. You guys put far too much thought into it.

Again, many of us already have after deciding to trust what reputable programmers have assured us with, and we can block the server updates by blacklisting them in the router settings

Yeah, I'm on 5.0, but I haven't added them to the router blacklist yet, and yeah, I'd best do that ASAP. Standby sounds a lot like the Wii's standby in the fact that it's still "on" adding wear and tear to the console, I don't like that story.

it turns on in standby, on a timer, unlike the PS4 and Xbox 1, which stays in standby always on.

Standby on my old Wii made the system so hot to the touch that I had to disable it. Don't know if that happened to anyone else, but that's my experience. Seems kind of counterproductive to leave a system on standby if all it does is cause wear and tear, as you stated.
