I just thought this might help anyone else having the same problem

I just bought a new memory stick that's the exact same one that gave me problems except the speed was 4 and I can confirm that Golden Sun plays. So I'm guessing anything lower than a 3 or 4 write speed isn't gonna play it. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

I have a Sandisk 8gb class 2 that plays it just fine

While my Sandisk 8gb class 4 and 16gb class 4 totally screw up.

EDIT: I just tried trimming the rom on my sandisk 16gb class 4, and the games working just fine so far (havent saved tyrell yet (why does the intro have to be so long))

class doesn't really mean much as its just a guide to minimum sequential write speed.
afaik ds usage is more small and/or random read/writes.
class 2 cards may perform better than class 4/6 cards.
class is a decent indicator but isn't end of everything.

Just measure the read and write speed with ATTO benchmark tool and you'll know, easy as that.
And yes I have seen Class 2 cards outperform class 6 cards.
Class 2 means it at least has 2 Mb/s write speed and this counts for all the micro sd cards.
